Default Dale Cooper Suits Up for ‘Twin Peaks’ Sequel Series

Twin Peaks is returning after 25 years and for those familiar with the strange world of Twin Peaks a promise was made, so its time for some cherry pie along with some damn fine coffee

I believe it will be out in 2016 and on Showtime

Me too. I hate paying for Showtime but I suppose they will be getting my money just like HBO does.

    Default Twin Peaks

So, is anyone watching the new Twin Peaks series? I thought it got off to a decent start, recapturing much of the feel of the original series.

I posted my thoughts in the general TV discussion. I started watching part 3 on my lunch break today and it was still pretty far out there. I will stick with it because of how much I liked the first series but I hope it doesn't continue down the path it is on.

FYI, parts 3 and 4 are up on Showtime to watch. I watched it through my Direct TV account.

The evolution of the arm introduces himself with a different sound than the arm claimed in the past. This new sound is slightly different from the sound you can hear in Part 2 before Mike said, "Something's wrong." The arm then answered, "My doppelganger." That sound -- the 'something's wrong' sound which is a bit different from what the arm now says he sounds like -- is the same sound that the Giant played for Agent Cooper at the beginning of Part 1. Cooper agreed with the Giant that "It is in our house now." Does this suggest that Cooper already knew about the arm's doppelganger? Although he was identified as "Giant" in the credits of classic series episodes, that appearance at the beginning of this new season is credited as "???????." I am hoping that that is a tease to learning more about him in upcoming episodes.

I don't know if anyone has stuck with this but it is rounding into (more or less) the Twin Peaks that I loved. The only problem I have is that the Dougie storyline is drawing out too much. It was great to see that Cooper can still physically react when needed but I miss his banter. Hopefully that wraps up soon and Cooper gets ready to take on Dirty Cooper (as EW calls him.) Actually my other problem is that my free trial of Showtime is ending so I might have to start watching this by other means.

    And then this episode happened...

I just watched it and I am still trying to figure out what everything meant. Was that bug/frog/penis suppose to be BOB, created by a nuclear bomb and the vomit of a cosmic being known as the Experiment? Was that Leland's mom or something? And given what it looked like, how much did what happened gross you out?

I also read Doc Jensen's review on EW and even he was struggling to figure it out. He still had some good theories so it is worth checking out.

In terms of story, it's really not that unusual. The part with the giant set up some kind of origin of heroes to stand against the coming of evil that we witnessed and many people wanted to jump to the conclusion the next part with that girl was immediately the next step in the response of good to the horror, probably because we have seen fragile vessels such as one little insect carry the only hope past different armies of darkness in lots and lots of other shows. It looked to me like the killer ghoul/ghost ash-colored guys were helping it get into her, though, so I believe it probably was BOB or some other member of the Black Lodge. Probably we're just going to see more about answering background on the good side in upcoming episodes. The murders at the radio station were the decisive act to me; sure, there is a natural gag reflex at the whole appearance of that alien critter that is only added to by it crawling up into somebody, but it reminds of Star Trek, you know, where they had both evil parasites that take over people's minds and a related species of symbiotes like Dax on DS9. I respect people deciding that what looks gross and weird is not always bad. I just don't get in this case why the long-term plans of the giant would start in the same small town the monsters showed up in when there's nothing shown to make me think they came there to stop it.

    Wow. WTF, Lynch.

I think I have an idea of what that finale was about but there were so many questions left unanswered. I thought the season two finale was great as an f you for being cancelled. This time he could have ended anyway he wanted and he chose to do the same thing. Oh well, it was a unique ride and it inspired me to watch more Lynch movies for clues.

The ending of this season was almost an anti-Dark Tower thing.
    Spoiler:
Dale ties to save Laura, and while he prevents her from being murdered, she ends up finding heartbreak and misery all over again, just in a different way. It's like Roland defeating Flagg and Merlin and the Crimson King and saving the Tower only to have something else come along that threatens its existence, over and over again. There's never an escape from the loop.

It definitely made me think of The Dark Tower (and maybe even more so The Talisman) with its doppelgangers and alternate realities. But I'm not sure that he is in an actual alternate reality so much as a Black Log construct meant to trap him (which the names given by the home owner at the end seem to suggest.)
