It use to be common and legal to borrow from previous works. Strict copying was not allowed, but copying style or archetypes was expected. The law is no longer simply about plagiarism.

The judge just ruled on the defense's motion for summary judgement, which was granted. The case is finished.

Steve & all the other parties are victorious. Hard to say about an appeal -- the judge's verdict was quite extensive on all points.

I will scan and post the letter I received.

In short (the letter is lengthy), the person who sued King (and fortunately was summarily ruled against) sent me a demand letter wanting to know the personal info for several members here that had commented in THIS thread. He also wanted me to write a statement etc. After consullting an attorney, I chose to ignore the letter.

Unless legally subpoenaed , I would never reveal what little info I know about a member (user ID, registered email-that's all I have on any particular member).

There was at least one poster Dubay's lawyers asked me about, but he only knew the poster by his/her screen name and I didn't recognize it. He tried to make something of the fact that I have "Wordslinger" attached to my profile here, too.

In the end, my deposition was a total wash for them, I think. The lawyer who appeared on my behalf asked for them to send a transcript once they had one and Dubay's lawyer said he didn't think they'd be paying to have the depo transcribed, which tells me there was nothing probative as a result of my answers to their questions.

Yeah, it was a little creepy during the deposition to find out he'd been reading my posts on this board and elsewhere. It's all public, of course, but it felt weird.
