Don Maitz told me he prefers doing 1st or Artist/Gift editions. He does watercolors and so it's wet. He worries about damaging a valuable book. Also there is shipping of the book both ways which risks damages.
I agree with him. Even if the artist uses a different media, I'd only have them remarque a 1st or Artist/Gift edition.

I contacted Jason Mowry who was great to deal with. I went with the color remarque in both of my editions for $75 each. I have nothing against it. If it makes the owner of the book happy, why not. The Mowry ones look great. The ones Dave did for Misery back in the day were really nice. I had him do one in my copy at the time and I dig it.
Although, if the drawing is by an artist who had nothing to do with the book, then I’m not crazy about that.
