Default Great Music - Finals: 1985-1989 (Final 9 of 14)

For this playoffs poll, please choose one track to move on to the Tournament Finals as the representative of this time period in music.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for twelve days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (1987)

Tom Petty - Free Fallin' (1989)

The choices boil down to adrenaline vs. clunk-clunk-clunk.

I like Tom Petty well enough, but this song is hardly his best.

On the other hand, Appetite for Destruction came out of nowhere to totally change the face of rock music. It's of a genre I don't normally like, but Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (1987) has so much god-damn energy, it's hard to escape its tractor beam. Here it gets my vote.

The poll has closed. The winner of the 1985-1989 time period is Tom Petty - Free Fallin' (1989).

It will represent this era in the Tournament Finals.

Amazing... when I think of Petty I think of tunes such as Last Dance With Mary Jane, Here Comes My Girl, You Got Lucky, Breakdown, Only The Losers, Learning to Fly, Runnin' Down a Dream, Good to Be King ect...I am surprised this tune represents.

Possibly the best Petty tune ; this haunting Dylan style number:
