I would say lower with the price clipped DJ.
That would bother me if it was in my collection.

OK, in the last 3 weeks there have been a handful of "surprisingly high" amounts paid for books that, in my opinion, are not impossible to find. Three numbered Firestarters went for $2,700 to $3,000. One had slight damage to it. Two were eBay sales and one was with a prominent bookseller. Under the Dome Collector's Set went for around $200.00 on eBay. ABE had multiple sets for sale at $150.00 or less. On Friday, a flat-signed copy of On Writing went for $1,500 (two bidders tied at that amount). I could keep on going. What is going on? This is crazy. I am contemplating selling my entire collection if this trend lasts much longer. Comments?

What is going on is you have a ton of people stuck at home with more disposable income than usual because they're not going out and spending it like they normally would, AND you have a huge influx of new collectors through pages like the Facebook Rare King group. Those combined lead to an uptick in prices across the board.

Still not sure it's a good time to sell, I think (if you're coming at this from a money making perspective) that waiting until the sad day that King passes away would be the bigger cash cow.

This is not all pandemic driven. The advent of collectors groups in social media is really playing the biggest role. Since I started Rare King almost 4000 members have joined and 2500 are
Active. That’s a lot. Many feel a “community” and receive great Joy from sharing their treasures. They feel acceptance and part of something. Then it doesn’t take long... they get a gift edition or two... then a signed one. That “high”
We all get here is fresh and hits hard.. they want another. And then another. Then guess what? A new king collector has emerged into the fold. The demand goes up while the supply falls. The pandemic accelerated what was already happening. By saving money on travel, stimulus $ and going out, etc.... more money for that new passion. I do not forsee a drop. I know some have said the term bubble BUT we would need an Economic disaster like 2008. You just won’t see the current new collectors just quit. They won’t. Even if 20% did... you may see prices level out for some time and go back to a steady climb... but you won’t see them fall like some think. Hey I could be wrong... and time will tell.

What I learnt all these years collecting is that the market fluctuates and IMO if a crisis happens (and crisis always happen at certain point) prices will fall. The first thing you get rid of when you need money are collectibles and during crisis a lot people need it.

One would think... but wasn't the pandemic a crisis? And look what happened. I think the point is that we just don't know... there is no guarantees and its nothing but guesswork. Ill be very interested in how the next 5 years go. The largest transfer of wealth in history is upon us with the baby boomers passing down their savings (fortunes) as they pass on.... and their collections too. That could also have effects on the market. Some of the guys here have LARGE collections too. Its an interesting time to collect King for sure

Can I ask the going rate for these two please?

    Later numbered and
    Grant Christine Numbered

I am trying to work out if it would be rude/realistic to offer a trade (I have the Later book).

Although feels inherently out of kilter, the prices of Later seem quite high.

    Thanks, Dave

Later is hard $1000 now... seems that Christine is $1250 ++ (Davids last sale was $1250) AND Many have sold in the $1500 range SO... not a good trade in my eyes.
