I would say it's foolish buyers who think it is a signed edition.
I would say it's foolish buyers who think it is a signed edition.
I had noticed it too. I wonder what the S/L is going for these days!
I would agree with the foolish buyers theory, but they've been high for a while, and I'm not sure that many people would be that confused...
I was also shocked by that. One of the reasons I put a S/l up SOD Volume One on Ebay.
Maybe newbie collectors?
CD has a bunch of new customers due to Blockade Billy, might be them.
Here is the auction.

Let's see what a S/L FDNS commands on the open market....
As of the writing of this post, the auction is up to $375......if the auction goes no higher, the seller will be losing money since he paid $385 shipped.

You beat me to the post Ralph.
Gotta love snipe bidding, went from $375 to $480 in 5 seconds.
Very nice profit, for a book that isn't even out yet.
Nice, but not great when you figure he is going to pay about $30 in ebay and Paypal fees.
The seller did not have much of a feedback history...that probably hurt his final price.
I know I would be less enthusiastic about buying a book that may not come out for months from a seller with only 4 feedbacks.
I am going to to test that theory....I just listed one with a higher opeing bid and a BUY IT NOW. If it sells, great....if not, I am only out a 35 cent listing fee.

If you had to rate the price I paid on this, would you rate it as awful, very bad, bad, fair, good, very good, or great?
I am leaning toward good/very good (assuming it arrives in the condition described).

I think you made a very good buy there, Tippy! If it does arrive in the condition described, you made a great buy!
John
I'll wait to see what you say when you receive it.
The DJ shows wear-minor but nonetheless there. The seller says the book itself isVery subjective (wiggle room) way to describe it.THIS BOOK IS IN AS CLOSE TO PERFECT MINT CONDITION AS I HAVE EVER SEEN.. PAGES DO SHOW SOME FADING DUE TO AGE ONLY.
BTAIM, I think preliminarily you got a good deal.
Hello, I am new here. This is actually my first post! Thanks for helping me out. I have been an on again off again King reader for awhile now. I have collected other authors, and through my reading of the DT series over the last 7 years or so, I now am destined to collect the series.
I have tried looking through the posts below, some are very long!! Is there a post someplace where someone estimates the cost of each book's value as a first edition?
Thanks for your help,
Debungsmere
You can look over at Tomas' website - http://skcollector.com - he has a lot of good price information as a starting point - and Welcome!
Thanks Eric, I appreciate it. That is a great site with good info. I recently came across the DT I HC 1st Edition for $350 and scooped it up. From what I could gather at the store while on my phone it was a good deal, looks like it was. Now I have to get the rest of them I guess
Wow, that's a pretty good first purchase. You got quite a deal if it's a true first edition with correct dustjacket and everything. In addition to SKCollector, you can also use Bookfinder, Abebooks, etc. to get general ideas of retail prices, Betts Books to get an idea of what collectors usually pay for good quality items, and of course eBay to see what collectors and the rest of the world sell for. Of course as with everything else on eBay, be careful and do your homework. Members of the site here are extremely knowledgeable of all things Stephen King; don't hesitate to post questions before you make a purchase, they won't steer you wrong. I'd start by posting photos of your DT1 to see what everybody says!
Welcome to the site.
George
Welcome to TheDarkTower.org
We have a thread here where Collectors will provide real time estimates:
Current Market Value-Experts assess your collectible King item
This thread will be merged shortly.
Dang Randall you are on top of things here. I am very impressed with the Forum so far.
George I am working on a collectors post, cool forum category. I tried to do my due diligence before purchasing DT1 to make sure it was legit. The dust jacket has two prices listed, the book w/o DJ is maroonish. And it has the stated first edition. So hoping it was a steal at $350!
Thanks again everyone, having fun reading all the old posts. Nice to find a place of collectors and appreciation of good modern lit.
Welcome aboard, degungsmere!
A word of "warning" about using the prices at ABE, Bookfinder, etc. The prices they list are what they are hoping to get--not what they may sell for. I've negotiated prices down on these sites almost routinely. (I got one for 30% less than they were asking!) Your best bet is, as was stated above, using The Collector's site as a guideline, and checking out the Completed auctions on eBay. Those completed auctions give a better idea of the value of a book than just about anything else.

I think you got a heck of a deal, Tippy. Not only is it hard to find a copy in NF/F condition, the price you paid makes it an extra sweet acquisition.
Congratulations. It's nice when a purchase exceeds expectations.
Welcome to Calvin's Corner, Debungsmere.
Rick, congratulations on that good deal.
