Worth checking with your current contents insurance. Here in the U.K. I contacted my home insurer and I had it confirmed that I am covered for loss and damage of any SINGLE item up to a value of £2000 (~$2.7k) so as long as none of my books are valued higher than that, all my collection is covered.
The only books I have that come close are S/L copies of IT and The Stand.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
I think $7K is correct.
Is a first Plume printing ( Sept 1988 ) of The Gunslinger worth anything? I got sent one instead of a U.K. Edition by a disreputable seller, and I want to check its value before sending it back for refund.

Thanks, Brian. This is a VG copy at best. No creases to spine or covers, but there are chips and rubbing to the covers, and the whole book has a "wave" in it from being shipped in a plastic sleeve.
It's actually a fairly nice copy for its age, if not particularly collectible. It's just not the edition I wanted.
I will be returning it. Thank you all for your assessment.

Before returning the book, first check if it isn't one of the ARCs with slightly different cover art (check the pics in the Proofs catalog). Small chance but you never know
Mine doesn't have a cover illustration at all, actually. It's just plain orange with the title in black on the front cover.
Just kidding. It's a standard 1/1, from the looks. Not an ARC. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

That was really funny. Even the word funny is funny.
"One day you're going to figure out that everything they taught you was a lie."
Speaking of funny, what's the orange Plume proof for The Dark Tower II going for? Twice as much as The Gunslinger?
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
Thanks John! One more question: the yellow SKELETON CREW US proof?

Any idea of what is reasonable for a signed 1st trade TGWLTG (assuming the signature is authentic, of course)?
I tried to PM but Lot guy's bin is full...
Anyone have any details about the edition of 2 copies?
I have the unsigned and regular limited edition, and have seen (but not owned ) the roman numeral copies. I've also seen what I thought was a rebound version in maroon leather. But this is the first I've read about this edition...
I'm sorry I'm late to the party: I'm new and have been bored and reading lots of old threads...
Jerad at Centipede Press commissioned two very special versions of this book in 2004. Bound in black goatskin leather in the mid 15th century gothic style by Forrest Jackson, the books had silk headbands designed and sewn by David John Lawrence.
The book was finished with brass fore edge clasps that were hand made by Jim Croft. The book also featured gold tooling by Stuart Brockman. Internally the book was printed on Mohawk Superfine paper and included the photographs by Jerry Uelsmann
The two copies are designated 'First of two' and Second of two'.

I have seen with my own eyes one of these two Salem's copies and it is breathtaking!!!
I think I posted pics of this once, but I own Jerad's personal Lettered copy...it actually is blank, but it came with all the original legal correspondence between lawyers, the Shining "pitch book" (there are only 4), an original letter from King praising Jerad for this work, full set of prints....it is a beauty to be sure...could not even put a value on it today.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
I would very much like to see pictures of this! It sounds like the Salem's Lot set could be the true holy grail of Centipede Press books...
The other top contender in my mind is the deluxe roman numeral set of The Urth of the New Sun, which I have never seen and only heard about from carlosdetweiler's posts, but clearly there are other rarities that I've not heard of...!
