Since it's the first Roman Numeral, there are no "rights holders" for this book. Anyone is free to enter the lottery. It doesn't affect lettered rights.
Was this the second DR project referred to in the beginning of the year Becca?

I think the Stand is beautiful and would love to own it but I just cant afford it.

In fact, if this means that there is not going to be another "Regular" lettered DR project coming out this year it is really GOOD news for me as it will give me more time to financially catch up!

In any case, the book is amazing and those lucky 8 people (plus Paul and yourself im guessing? ) are going to be some really lucky collectors.

    What a beautiful edition!

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Cool to see the news dropped on TDT. If there's a newsletter it hasn't hit my inbox yet.
Alright, we'll call it a draw.

I'm rather surprised there are only 8(10). Should be plenty of 1st page blocks in great condition to be found. Looks great though, a beautiful cover.

I am not part of DR at all, but is it possible that Paul will occasionally make RN books for this company as well and that's why there are only 8(10) like
you say, and this is a way to get that part started? Just like CP did for Salems' and the way Suntup is doing. Just a thought. I could be %100 wrong though.

Please help me out, was there a newsletter or email prior to existing DR customers prior to the news dropping on social media? I'm one of the 26 single-letter holders and I'm a little hurt at the lack of communication. But I want to make sure I have my facts right and didn't miss a message others received.

The surprise factor is my one gripe about Paul's style. I'm minding my own business on a Monday and -- boom -- DR news drops on social media. Am I owed rights to a new 'type' of edition? No. Would I have appreciated forewarning that a DR edition was forthcoming? Yes. Would I have appreciated forewarning that The Stand would not/never be produced as a lettered DR edition? Yes. It's about managing expectations. Hypothetically the announcement could as easily have been of a new DR lettered edition and I would be expected to step up for $KK purchase on a couple days notice (or lose my rights). I love the creations and I love the passion but a little heads up would be nice.

I've had a similar experience with the Covers Collection. I've subscribed since the first print. A few months back I asked Paul directly for forecast of series sunset. Paul was vague in his response. Ultimately the series is ending around the timeframe he implied, but my first inkling of "official communication" was watching last month's Facebook live session. Again, maybe I missed an email, but was there a message to subscribers first with the news? Or were folks who'd never in their life bought a print more aware (because they watched a FB video) of the series ending than existing customers?

Sorry for the rant. I really love Paul's creations and I really feel for Paul as a small businessperson just trying to do his best. I get it. I'm just sharing.
Alright, we'll call it a draw.

DR shared the information in their newsletter.
I guess that you wonder is whether it was a public newsletter or just their current customer base. It was the public newsletter

By the way, you do NOT lose the rights if you do not enter the lottery and win.
You will not get the DR roman numeral rights, which are a new limitation.
You will keep your numbered DR rights

This does not affect the "rights" of anyone who has previously purchased DR books - you still retain your Letter with the next DR lettered book. It's just that there is such small amount being made - 10 total copies; I can only imagine that due to the production costs for this exquisite book, tough time finding enough books - it is more like a one off. Hence why the lottery system for this book to begin with - which gives people ample time to decide if they want to enter. I've had DR from the beginning - one of the original 26 - but I know that I will not have this one in my library - and I am completely fine with that...there are obviously many paths DR could have taken in regards to releasing the book and figuring out how best to offer it - and I can only imagine they thought of every possible direction. That is one of the things that does set them apart in my mind - I truly believe they put a ton of though and effort - just in figuring out the best way to release a title. Learning from other publishers and their previous efforts.

FYI-Paul did send a letter included with prints about a year ago, outlining the end of the prints as April of 2021, he has actually added one month since. But he did send out
a letter only to print subscribers.
I am also disappointed there won't be a lettered Stand and I agree communication could have been better.

I really wonder if this was the reason for making The Stand a Roman numeral edition, just the sheer difficulty of finding this many copies, in the necessary condition, of this particular King first edition. Perhaps there's always "enough" out there for someone with enough resources, but I do wonder if Paul found himself running into a brick wall on this.

...and then there's the cost of each (so many parts of Paul's job give me heartburn, and this is definitely one).

I just hope I receive my usual FREE A or I or '0' or α or א copy, as usual, Paul.

I promise not to tell anybody!!!
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
