The last polls of Round 1 closed today but we'll still have a few tiebreakers going until Wednesday. Therefore, Round 2 will begin on Monday, May 2.

For the first two time periods (1945-1949 and 1950-1954) this second round will be the last before the playoffs, so the songs that move on from there will be moving onto the playoffs and their seeding will be determined by the sum of their percentages earned in Round 1 and 2. The other 12 time periods will go though Round 3 to whittle the roster down even more, due to having twice as many nominations.

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

With today's new polls for the last groups of the '90s we will be starting the last week of Round 2 come Monday. Thanks again to everyone for participating and voting!

Once the second round is done, Round 3 will begin, which will be even more fun. The first two time periods (1945-1949 and 1950-1954) won't be taking part in the third round, so it will be the 12 other time periods, each with 12 groups of four songs. In each group the top two vote-getters will be promoted into the playoffs. This should be quite a battle...

At the conclusion of Round 3, the playoffs will begin with each of the 14 time periods having their Top 24 facing against one another. As a reminder, each song will be seeded according to the total of its percentage points earned in Rounds 1-3 (so how well a song does in a given poll matters quite a bit).

And so the last polls of Round 2 have closed. We still have two open tiebreaker polls remaining: here and here. They'll close on June 14 and 15, and on Monday, June 20 we'll begin our third and final preliminary round before the playoffs! This will be very fun!

So round 2 is officially over?
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

Yup. The last open poll of Round 2 closed today. Round 3 will begin Monday. I won't be able to post polls in the morning like I have been , so they should be going up late afternoon or early evening. A full schedule will be posted to the first post of this thread.

See the explanation for Round 3 in the first post of this thread. Basically, if you'll remember, there were less nominations (half as many) in the first two time periods than in all subsequent ones.
