    Default Stephen King in 2016

Like last year's thread, this is just to speculate as to what we can expect from King next year. It seems to me the only book tentatively scheduled for 2016 is End of Watch, the third Mr. Mercedes novel. I don't believe other than that King has dropped any hints as to whether he'll continue his two-books-a-year pace (two books each in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and only one of them not a novel). Unless I'm blanking on it, I do not recall if King or Ms. Mod stated recently if King is definitely working on something specific like a novel, though we all know he is.

Wasn't there talk of finishing up the collaboration with Peter Straub? If so maybe that's on the agenda.

If it ever comes, I hope it will be in 2018. There was a 17-year gap between The Talisman (1984) and Black House (2001). Seventeen years after 2001 would be 2018. It just fits. And Straub said last year at a signing that it should be soon now...

There's been no work done with Peter thus far on a third book. Peter's recurrent health problems is an issue.

He is working on other things, but none of them are scheduled for publication at this point.

Well, not no work. According to various reports through the years, the two have at least talked about the third book several times and at this point have an idea of what it may be.

I have no indication that a DT book is coming any time soon. That's not to say it won't happen, but I don't know anything about it.

King mentioned in an interview sometime in the beginning of this year, that we was working on something with his son Owen. I wonder if they are still working on the project or if it just awaits a publisher

Maybe after "End of Watch" King might just take a break after all he has been a very busy man lately.

I dont think that Steve ever wait for a publisher for working on a project.
He is lucky enough to be able to write anything and his publishers will want to release it...

Nothing very specific, Bill, just it's been mentioned on and off. Check out the long Talisman 3 thread at The Oracle.

What I'm really curious about now that we're about to hit 2016 is that often repeated number of "more than 350 million" books sold over King's career. As far as I can tell, that number, albeit vague, goes back at least ten years. If you look at King's Wikipedia article:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King
Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American author of contemporary horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. His books have sold more than 350 million copies
That claim is linked to a BBC article from November 22, 2006. So in ten years King's numbers haven't increased any? I know it says "more than", so it can be anything - 400, 500 million. But what's the newest and most up to date estimate?

No one really knows. Those numbers get bandied about, but they're wild-a$$ guesses at best.

Well, feels like that number should somehow be updated after being bandied about by everyone since at least 2006. It's way outdated by now and not as impressive anymore, especially with King doing his two-books-a-year thing lately. Get some Scribner intern in front of Excel, stat!

I'd like to see that Cell movie released at some point. IMDB lists its status as completed...
