Default The Collectible Robert E. Howard

Any Robert E. Howard collectors out there? I'd love to see some of your books, especially the Conan Gnome Press editions from the 50's and the Conan Donald M. Grant limited editions. I've seen pictures of these books (but not the interior illustrations), but it's not quite the same as seeing a book from someone's personal collection (especially from you guy's here).

I started reading REH when I was a young teenager in the early 80's, mostly the Conan Ace paperback reprints from that era. Years later I started to slowly collect first printings of the original Conan Lancer paperbacks from the 60's. I've managed to acquire 8 of the 9 core Lancer books in VG or Near Fine condition. I say 9, because of the 12 original Lancer Conan books, 2 didn't feature any REG stories and the other, Conan the Wanderer, I havn't been able to find in good condition yet. I also have VG, first printing copies of King Kull (Lancer, 1967) and Bran Mak Morn (Dell, 1969), as well as some assorted trade paperbacks and various reprints. Nothing too special, but I adore these books, especially the Lancer editions with those amazing Frank Frazetta covers!

It's amazing how many REG books and anthologies are out there, especially for a guy who died at the age of 30.

    First printing Conan Lancer books

King Kull of Atlantis (Lancer, cover art by Roy Krenkel) and Bran Mak Morn (Dell), the last King of the Picts! (Frank Frazetta cover)

Pigeons From Hell, late 70's Ace reprint (cover art by Esteban Maroto)

Nice! Those are some great looking Lancers.

I am a REH disciple. I have some good stuff and will post it up as soon as I have a chance to get some photos.

I used to read REH faithfully, but don't really have much of a collection.
I'll see hat I can do and post a couple of items later today.

It's not much of a collection, volume-wise, but I'm very proud of my three books.

Wow, great stuff so far! Some absolutely stupendous books there!

I have the trade paperback edition of The Horror Stories (which includes the Staples illustrations), but your edition is so much better.

Crimson Shadows (The best of...vol. one) hasn't sold out yet - I guess that must be the reason SubPress never did: The Best of Robert E. Howard Volume 2: Grim Lands ??

I'd love to see some Conan limiteds.

I love this thread! I only have/read 2 volumes of the Del Rey PB's that came out several years ago, Horror Stories and The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian. I thought both were fantastic. Great illos in both. I really ought to get some more, come to think of it!
I had no idea that there was a deluxe edition of "Horror". I may have to track that one down...
I'll try and post a few pics this weekend of the REH comics that I have, if anyone is interested?

Amazing collection of REH books Siep! I've been a huge fan of his works since discovering him in the later years of high school, to a certain degree the quality of work between him and Michael Moorcock ruined the enjoyment of high fantasy for me. The two are such great story tellers with such vivid imagery, Howard especially. My favourite works are his two Bran Mak Morn stories Kings of the Night and Worms of the Earth. Howard, Moorcock and King rank my top 5 authors, along with James Ellroy and Jim Thompson, though I don't know which order really. I don't really have any REH limited editions yet, though I have a decent paperback and trade library of his works.

A pic from my shelf, can't get much more at the moment since I'm not at home. The copy of Sword of Shahrazar is a fantastic print. There's was a nice selection of his works out in hardcover from the 70's, normally with small printings and beautiful B&W art. Mostly Grant and FAX, but I think maybe some Arkham House too. This isn't one of may favourite works, but it is a great edition.

Agreed on the Sword of Shahrazar. Michael Wm. Kaluta knocked it out of the park on that one.

Forgot it was Kaluta. He is a fantastic artist, indeed. That era of artist brought about many of my favourites, often working in both comics and other industries. Starting with artists like Frazetta and Whelan but including artist like Wrightson, Kaluta, Arthur Suydam and Ken Kelly.
