I just made my reservations....
I am arriving from NYC Friday morning and departing very very early Sunday morning. Funny thing with flights to the Northeast from Las Vegas, either you have to leave at the crack of dawn or late in the day (red-eye flight). The few flights that leave middle of the day are way expensive and usually involve a stop with a long layover.
For those of you that still have to pick a place to stay, I did an extensive search all morning on the Internet looking at Obitz.com, kayak.com and about 20 other such discount-type sites. Vegas on the weekend is expensive no matter how you slice or dice it. I wanted something on the Vegas Strip (which is in fact quite long end to end...3-3.5 miles maybe) and I was searching by cheapest (and decent quality). I ended up at Harrah's for $160 a night. Harrah's is dead center ogf the strip, not far from Monte Carlo where Jerome & lovely wife will be and Bally's (forget who booked there).
Cheaper places I rejected were:
Imperial Palace (central and next to Harrah's): $130/ nite on Obitz.com rejected cause of reviewers saying the whole place was smoky and a bit run down
Sahara (way at end of strip): $110/night cause too far away from everything
Stratosphere (past the Sahara): $100/night cause too far away
Circus Circus (towards the far end, not as far out as Sahara): $110/night cause of bad reviews regarding noise, service etc.
Good luck people. Double or triple up if you are able to save costs.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
I just e-mailed Jae Lee and outlined the weekend for him and put in a personal request that he meet you all while we are there.
No promises, of course.
Sometimes it takes him a couple months before he replies, so be patient please.

Amazing information there David, thanks so much for it.
And Jae Lee...just the possibility...<swoons>

Very cool Wiz. You are only ~4,000' from our hotel. Probably only a $10 cab ride
My hubby was in Vegas in March and he said the cab ride from the airport to Treasure Island was $22. Maybe we could coordinate some of us at the airport to share the ride.
I'm for sure going to be staying at the Monte Carlo. I haven't booked yet but that is where I'll be planting my feet. First comes the cocktails then comes the pool. Party on wayne, party on garth.
and I'm bringing my Gunslinger Born Hardcover for you all to sign.

I'd like some feedback now as we get closer.
- Is a cocktail social in a room, (mine, I did get a larger room on purpose) the best thing for both nights? It certainly would be cheaper and more intimate than a bar.
- If so, I was thinking 5pm-8+ish on Friday and 5pm-7pm on Saturday (I wanted to go to a show Saturday, and my wife and Father in-law would need a little time to prepare and travel.)
- Obviously additional get togethers can/will be scheduled, but this is just a feeler to see what others think.
That sounds great. I'll even chip in some beer and whatnot.
Maybe some of us can get together on Saturday afternoon and play poker. The Luxor and Excalibur have "beginner" lessons at around 1-2pm, and then it's a $20 buy in and a $1/$2 table. You can come and go as you please, and it's cheap. Or, if enough people were interested, we might be able to arrange our own "regular" table in one of the poker rooms.

I would be interested in coming. I mostly hang out on the collectors site, and I see Wiz has signed up. I was wondering if anyone else from the collectors site knows about this. I have a feeling most don't as they don't usually visit other parts of the site. Maybe a heads up on other portions of the site might get others involved.
Anyway, I also have to say I'm confused. I haven't read through all 22 pages, and not sure when I'll get the time to do that. Are there any plans or structure of anything set yet, that I could look at?
Thanks in advance!
Geoff
We are just now trying to firm up two Cocktail socials, as well as other activities (it isn't a Convention so there are no formal events)-one or both likely to be held in my hotel suite. Both starting ~5pm and ending???
I will post a notice in the collector area-good suggestion.
Let me know what's decided. If the "hang out in a room" thing is done, I'll also drop in for a while and bring over some sort of liquid refreshment.
you're solid gold // i'll see you in hell
Here is the current list of people who are comitted to coming-please let me know who I am missing:
Erin
Hannah
maerlyn
Matt
Dora
Randall Flagg and lovely Wife
Daghain and DBF
Feverish Parade
Obscuredude?
Wizardsrainbow
That would be SWEET if you could come.
Jerome, I'm cool with the two receptions in your room as well as the times. Loose and easy is the ticket for me. I plan on gambling around the area in addition to hanging with people from the site.
Daghain's idea of introductory poker is a really great idea with low stakes to boot! I know how to play poker, but would be intimidated playing in a casino. Roulette and blackjack are my games of choice.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Umm, is there anyone else here besides me that has no idea how to play poker?
They teach you the basics. If there's enough of us, we could take over the table. And at $1/$2, if you play conservatively you can basically drink free all afternoon.

I plan on not gambling at all. Maybe like, slots or blackjack. Maybe.
I know of one other person that might be coming, but I'm not for sure so I guess I'll wait until I know for sure until I say something.

I hope that person is bethany! I already told her she could stay in our room if she wants.

For sure! The more of us we pile in there the more fun we're going to have.

I just got off the phone with my cousin, and he told me that he made it to Vegas on a full tank (he filled up here before he left). So yiyay! Road trip for sure!
He also told me that he has the hookup at the Hooters Hotel - he paid $189 for three nights there, and he says he might be able to hook me up as well. I'm not sure if I'll stay there or not, but its definitely something to reconsider
Not to date myself, but....I am really starting to get "stoked" about this.
Toootaaaaly.
