Brendan Gleeson and Anton Yelchin are starring as Bill Hodges and Brady Hartsfield respectively.

Yelchin isn't who I pictured as Brady at all although it's inspired casting.

David Kelley said, "Mr. Mercedes is a great story that will translate beautifully to the screen if I don’t mess it up" - agreed (I'd say this applies to most adaptations).

    Casting sounds good.

So yeah - don't eff it up!

It's the Audience channel, which is on DirecTV only. If you have DirectTV, you have it.

Yeah, I don't have DirecTV. But the casting actually seems really good. Also, I'd think 10 episodes is way too short to adapt the whole trilogy.

Harry Treadaway Tapped to Replace Anton Yelchin

The forthcoming AT&T Audience Network drama has tapped Penny Dreadful grad Harry Treadaway to replace the late Anton Yelchin, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Mr. Mercedes, based on Stephen King's 2014 book of the same name, follows a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again.

Treadaway will play Brady Hartsfield, a mentally deranged ice cream truck driver and IT worker who is secretly the Mercedes Killer. He will star opposite Brendan Gleeson, who will portray Detective Bill Hodges, a retired cop driven out of retirement when an old nemesis reappears.

The adaptation received a straight-to-series order in May with Yelchin and Gleeson attached. However, the Star Trek actor was tragically killed in a car accident the following month. He was 27 years old.

Kelley will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being produced by Sonar Entertainment. Jack Bender (Lost) is set to direct. The duo will executive produce with Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Mr. Mercedes is slated for a 2018 debut on DirecTV and AT&T U-verse.

Best known for playing Dr. Victor Frankenstein on the recently wrapped Showtime series Penny Dreadful, Treadaway's other credits include The Lone Ranger and City of Ember. He is repped by ICM and Principal Entertainment LA.

Thanks for the update, Bev! It would be cool if this could go multiple seasons and adapt all the novels in the series.

He was great as Frankenstein in Penny Dreadful. IDK if I see him as Brady though, Anton was really inspired casting on that front.

Stephen King's 2014 novel "Mr Mercedes," a police thriller and the first of the best-selling author's Bill Hodges Trilogy, will be made into a 10-episode TV series to be shot in Charleston starting early next year.

The book was adapted by showrunner David E. Kelley and produced by Sonar Entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will star Brendan Gleeson (HBO's "Into the Storm") and premier in 2018 on DirecTV and AT&T Uverse. Executive producers are Kelley and Jack Bender.

"Mr. Mercedes" features a crazed killer who harrasses a retired police detective. The former cop is forced to take action. The book won the Edgar Award for best novel. The second of the trilogy, "Finders Keepers," was published in 2015. The third, "End of Watch" was released in June.

The production team currently is looking for background extras and stand-ins. For information, go to http://www.projectcasting.com/castin...n-casting-call.

Magic City alumna Kelly Lynch has landed a key role in Mr. Mercedes, AT&T Audience Network’s upcoming drama series.

Based on Stephen King’s 2014 book of the same name, Mr. Mercedes follows a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again. David E. Kelley is writing the adaptation, which is being produced by Sonar Entertainment, and Jack Bender (Lost) is set to direct. Both executive produce along with Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Lynch will play Deborah Hartsfield, Brady Hartsfield¹s complicated mother. Despite her troubles, Deborah tries to have a normal relationship with her deeply troubled son but she is rarely successful.

Lynch, who played Meg Bannock in Starz’s Magic City, most recently appeared in indie film Oren Shai-directed The Frontier, alongside Liam Aiken and Izabella Miko. Her other recent films include Gregg Araki’s Kaboom, Passion Play which was written and directed by her husband Mitch Glazer and Glass Chin with Corey Stoll and Billy Crudup. She also recurred on the CW’s 90210. Lynch is repped by Primary Wave and attorney Mark Temple.
