This one was tough for me. In every such situation I ask myself which one of these I'd take to a deserted island.
then it has to be The Stand. It is twice as long... and of course, it is written in the past tense (important for bears)

Deserted island, and I only get one book.....Lord of the Flies....or maybe, given the circumstances, Mysterious Island.
Ohhhhh wait.....it would definitely be a long and detailed survival guide.
