Only reason not a 5 (his best collection of all I think) is cause I am not a huge short story guy...

Five all the way. This has so many amazing stories, including some of my all-time top favorites. Note that the book is linked to its Wikipedia article in the first post so you can take a quick look at the table of contents if you don't recall offhand which stories exactly this collects.

    I gave it a 3.

A few really good stories (The Mist, The Jaunt, The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet) mixed with a few really bad ones (Here There Be Tygers, Beachword, Milkman #1 and #2) with a handful of ok ones in-between.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

This is my second favorite King short-story collection, behind Night Shift, which I gave a 4.5. Skeleton Crew had a number of "1-star" stories (unlike Night Shift, which had none). The good and excellent stories are extremely strong, which helps make up for the clunkers. All in all, works out to 4.

My breakdown is below (I don't do half-points in my personal rating system for stories, and my rating scale is 1 to 4):

    The Mist 3
    Here There Be Tygers 2
    The Monkey 4
    Cain Rose Up 1
    Mrs. Todd's Shortcut 3
    The Jaunt 4
    The Wedding Gig 3
    Paranoid: A Chant 2
    The Raft 4
Word Processor of the Gods 4
The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands 3
    Beachworld 1
    The Reaper's Image 2
    Nona 1
    For Owen 1
    Survivor Type 4
    Uncle Otto's Truck 2
    Morning Deliveries (Milkman #1) 1
Big Wheels: A Tale of The Laundry Game (Milkman #2) 1
    Gramma 1
The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet 4
    The Reach 2

Yeah, but first of all I toss out the 1-stars. I'm rating the book on how much I enjoy it--basically, how strong is it with good-to-great stories. That average comes out to 3.1 on a 4-point scale, which I extrapolated to a 4 (on a 5-point scale). Or, "I liked it almost as much as Night Shift, which I gave a 4.5. so 4 looks like a good rating for me."

Yea, I don’t really have a scientific method for voting either. Whatever number sounds right at the time is what I go with.

    Just giving you some crap.

Mrs Todd's Shortcut and Survivor Type are 2 of my all time favourites. Love this book.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
