2013 Oscar Contest

It's that time of year again. All of the smaller awards shows have come and gone and the biggest of them all is right around the corner - The Oscars. I think it's been an amazing year for film. Maybe the best year I've ever seen. There were so many great films released this year and I've seen most of them. That should make Oscar night that much more exciting.

This is the fourth year I'm running the Oscar contest. I think we had the most participants last year, which was great. I'm hoping to build on that this year. We always have a lot of fun predicting the winners and seeing who comes out on top. It's just for fun.

As some of you may remember, we had a three way tie for first place last year. Because of this, we will be adding a tie breaker. The tie breaker is simple: Basically, everybody will submit their choices like usual, except they will also add which film they think will win the most Oscars and give a number. In case of a tie, who ever has the closest number without going over is the winner.

IMPORTANT: Don't forget the tie breaker. It's simple: Basically, everybody will submit their choices like usual, except they will also add which film they think will win the most Oscars and give a number. In case of a tie, who ever has the closest number without going over is the winner.

Predictions have to be in by showtime, so there is no rush to post them. We still have a few weeks until Oscar night. I myself will be waiting for the last possible moment to post my predictions. I still have films to watch, buzz to follow and articles to read.

Remember, these are just educated guesses. None of us have seen every film nominated and I doubt if anybody has seen any of the documentary short subject nominees. Just make an educated guess. Or an uneducated guess. Hell, you can have your pet monkey put its finger on the film he or she thinks is going to win, I don't care. As long as you have made a guess for every category. By the way, if you have pet monkey, kudos to you.

I would also ask for this thread to remain by itself until after Oscar night. Then it would be fine to merge it with the other Oscar thread. I just think it's best to keep this separate for now. Thanks.

It doesn't have to be a few hours before showtime, it could be a few minutes. As long as it's in before the show starts, you're fine. Using standard Eastern time by the way. The show has an official start time of 8pm Eastern Time, but that includes Red Carpet special. The actual show won't start until 8:30. To make it simple for people, I say get it in by 8pm ET.

I'm not sure what anyone else thinks but Best Supporting Actor is such a stacked and unpredictable of all the categories, with the only one I don't think has a shot is Arkin. I'll have to mull that category over a lot.

I just watched Life of Pi and it definitely has Best Visual and Production Direction in the bag. I do think Ang Lee stands a very high chance of winning Best Director as well.


So is Production Direction now taking the place of Art Direction? Is it the same thing?
