My ranking puts this as my 3rd favorite of the series; perhaps even tied for 4th. But that still leaves it as a "4." Loved the Eddie story, and of course Roland, but did not like the Odetta/Detta story much at all. It does a great job of cranking up the series and leaves you wanting to read more.
This book is my third fav of the series, behind WaG, and Wolves. But that means it is still a 4.

5, totally. Roland meets Eddie, we have the action split evenly between Mid-World and New York, Detta is a character I loathe, which totally fits, and it left me wanting to read more of the series, a lot more, but it felt satisfying enough in its own right.

5. This is my favorite book of the series, which it my favorite cohesive work by King...which makes it my favorite King book. Plus, Eddie Dean is one of my all-time favorite characters from any book, and this is the book to introduce him. Love it

For me, WaG takes top honors. It was the most enjoyable read of the DT series.

Me too!!!! I loved this book, whereas The Gunslinger piqued my interest, this book grabbed me by the nose and didn't let go till the end of the beach!!!5. Well, I can't argue with that. It certainly is action-packed.
definitely a 5 for me. My fave book of the DT series, and one of my fave King books of all time.
A true firewasp ninja would never wear such a ridiculous sweater.

Echoing the sentiments of others, not only is it one of my favorite King novels, it's one of my favorite novels of all time.
The blistering pacing, the frantic action, the revelation of the rest of the members of the ka-tet, the perplexing nature of the doors on the beach and the drawing itself - all expertly interwoven into a riveting tale by King. Just an amazing read all around.
