My inner turmoil was between Hackman and Hoffman, but ultimately went with the former. A wonderfully versatile actor that has played myriad of roles - quirky indie character, villain, hero - and everything in between.

I haven't seen anything by Leung by I've heard great thing about In The Mood for Love. Need to check that out soon.

Went for Tony Leung myself, who was awesome in Infernal Affairs 1 and 3, not to mention Hard Boiled, of course.

    Dustin Hoffman. My nominee.

ETA: I can't fucking believe it! No Wag the Dog or Staw Dogs among the notables? What is it - cynophobia prevails at imdb? How about Lenny, then?

Hackman gets my vote for The Conversation alone, one of my all-time favourite performances. His versatility is amazing. He can play a quiet introvert, an asshole, an evil prick, a nice guy...no limit to his abilities. Between The Conversation and his roles in Unforgiven, Heartbreakers and The Royal Tenenbaums.

I love Dustin Hoffman who is also versatile bit Hackman to me is just a little better. Not many actors have the ability to make me hate them, feel sorry for them and make me laugh as he does.

One of my all time favorite Hackman quotes, his epilogue from The Replacements :

"When the Washington Sentinels left the stadium that date, there was no tickertape parade, no endorsement deals for sneakers or soda pop, or breakfast cereal. Just a locker to be cleaned out, and a ride home to catch. But what they didn't know, was that their lives had been changed forever because they had been part of something great. And greatness, no matter how brief, stays with a man. Every athlete dreams of a second chance, these men lived it."

I voted for Hoffman but Hackman is a close second, in my book.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

"I'll see you in hell, William Munny." Gene Hackman - Unforgiven

Tony Leung was my nominee. I love his work in almost every film. One film that doesn't get a lot of attention is Chungking Express. It's a really interesting film and one of the better love stories I've seen in a while. Leung is really great in that one.

That being said, I had to go with Hackman.

I've had that one in my queue for a while, all the guys at the IGN movie forums are always raving about it. Might have to bump that one up.

It was a toss up between Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman.....had to go with Hackman due to the fact that I like for my actors to play all kinds of roles....both have been in dramatic and comedic movies, both have cross dressed for a movie(Hackman in The Birdcage) but I have never seen Hoffman play a bad guy(villian) in any type of movie, and Hackman can play bad.

Have you seen him in Hook ? He's devilishly charming as the ruthless - albeit comical - Captain Hook. It's actually one of my favorite performances by him in what I consider a highly underrated film.

I am not crazy about the movie itself (have big issues with the second half, both plot- and directing-wise), but I love all acting there
