Looks good to me - and a great price!
This collecting stuff is a sickness! ~Patrick
Fantastic sample...no worries there...great price too.
Thanks guys. You've put my mind at ease. The fact that no one else had bid on it and I got such a good price, made me wary.
I've collected a few Kings but this is my first King signature (I have several Straub signed books, but find them much easier to obtain). I know I'll be addicted to finding more. Was really disappointed to hear King won't be visiting UK or Ireland on his Dome tour. Was hoping for a personally signed book - and preferably my favourite, IT.
Thanks again for the help!
Hello,
I'm relatively new to the board, although I've been lurking for a while. I've been collecting King first prints whenever I find them in used bookstores. A couple of years ago I came across two signed books - 'Different Seasons' and 'Danse Macabre'. Actually, I didn't notice they were signed until a few days after I purchased them - I only looked at the copyright pages to check for first edition/first printing status. The bookstore hadn't noticed they were firsts, as they were priced below cover, and I was happy enough to get them at that prices.
I have a couple of signed books by King (Postscripts 10, 'He is Legend') but the signatures on the earlier books is enough different that I'm not sure of them. I'm hoping to get opinions from the group. Even if they're not valid signatures, the books are still first prints that I got at a great price.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Brutally bad....
Thank god the bastard didn't do it to a macdonald first.
At least you didn't pay big money...
Those 2 signatures are really bad. They make the books worthless. At least you did not pay a lot for them. Keep them for reading copies.
Looks good to me too. Congratulations on a great buy!

I think the signatures were not done by Stephen King. I'd tear out the "signed" pages and shred them-that way a future owner won't possibly be fooled.
Welcome to the boards, hope to see you around.
No big surprise - I've been assuming that they weren't authentic. I have another first print copy of each book, so it doesn't put a hole in my collection. The dustjackets were in excellent shape on these two, so I swapped them.
I'll probably cross out the signatures and give the books to my brother, who's also a King fan but doesn't care much about the collectibility of the books themselves.
I've wondered occasionally about who did the signatures, and why. If it had been to increase the value, they obviously gave up on that idea, as the books were in a used bookstore not known for having collectibles, and not labeled as signed. In any case, eBay would have been the way to go if they were looking to scam someone. So, they messed up two very nice first prints, and got nothing out of it. Weird.
Thanks everyone for the input!

Thank you! And now I know where to come for help next time! Love this board. I can't wait to start reading more on "The Dark Tower" books. I only ever read the first one, and everything else by King, including his newest "Dome", and I'm just now finally starting on all 7 of the "Dark Towers". I'm also a big fan of Peter Straub. Are many people here Straub fans/collect Straub signatures too? Looking forward to "The Skylark/Dark Matter". So glad to have found this forum. Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. J
I have a few straub signed...I think you will find collectors of pretty much evrything on here.
Glad we could help you and welcome!
On a first edition? Possible, but you'd think they would know enough to use a book club edition for that. Or a plain piece of paper, they're worth about the same in the end.
Margaret Emmie Mackey Catoe, you are, have been, and always will be my soulmate, and I love you.

I was looking at this signature for awhile and I still don't like it... but I am no expert. Im certainly not going to buy the book, but wondered what you all thought of the signature. Even though it comes with a COA , I still think I would call it a forgery. Anyone agree or disagree ? Im curious to know
Fake. A COA is worth only the paper it's printed on.
