I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I was a big fan of the original in the 90s.

Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

Yeah, I'm interested in that as well, but I haven't heard many people talking about it.

I suppose this is kind of a TV question:

A new release (Blu-Ray and DVD) of A Charlie Brown Christmas is scheduled for tomorrow (Nov 3) through Barnes & Noble, Target, Best Buy and others - but somehow it isn't listed on Amazon, even when searching with the UPC and TCIN numbers.

Buying it isn't my problem; I'm just really curious how it comes to be that Amazon doesn't have it and other retailers do. It's possible that tomorrow, being the day of release, it will appear on Amazon, but then, Amazon frequently puts things up for preorder, so this would still be puzzling.

Does anyone know what is going on here? It's just mighty strange.

The filmmaking in The Queen's Gambit is just on another level for a series. It's like watching a 7 hour long Hollywood prestige film. The photography is simply stunning. I'm only 4 episodes in and I can tell this will be something I rewatch over and over again.

Honestly, Scott Frank has kind of flown under the radar. He burst on the scene with The Lookout. A fantastic film that people don't talk about enough. It then took him almost a decade to direct another feature film. It was Liam Neeson's A Walk Among the Tombstones, which was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, it was released at a time where Neeson was just pumping out generic action films, and I think people wrote it off. It's much more than that though.

Then he created Godless, the fantastic Western Netflix series that again is overlooked. I'm looking forward to Queen's Gambit and I'm really hoping this propels him to another level because there's considerable talent there.

Frank also wrote the screenplay for Logan, which I didn't realize until recently.

I knew there was something familiar about this film...and that's because I've watched Walk Among the Tombstones like 3 times in the past year, and i've seen The Lookout several times, but it has been awhile. I didn't recognize the name because, quite frankly, Scott Frank is maybe the most easily forgettable name I've ever heard. He should change it to Scottie Frankie or Scott Frankenstein or Scottie Scottie Frank Frank.

It is an amazing put together show. And his ability to build tension very subtly is probably what I'm noticing between all his works. Not to mention his films seem to very understated and reserved yet very visually engaging. you're going to love his tracking shots that establish a large interior space.

Other than the cover, I don't see much of a difference between the two. They both seem to have the same special features.

    Queen's Gambit
I can see why people liked the show. I felt it was a bit too slow. The acting was really great, especially her initial teacher whom I loved, but I didn't fall in love with her or the show. Sometimes I felt it was interesting, but once she met some new friends, it really didn't carry the enthusiasm it had in the earlier episodes for me.

    Bodyguard
Six episodes on Netflix. This show I felt had a ton of plots and some likable and dislikable characters throughout the show and it really interested me. I enjoyed this one a lot. The north remembers!

Bill Camp. The man is a fantastic actor. I'm halfway through, but he hasn't shown back up and I'm hoping he makes another appearance before the show ends.

I started To The Lake on Netflix. So far, about 5 episodes in; it seems your typical end of the world pandemic story. I'm a sucker for such stories. Nothing new or amazing. I'm just happy it wasn't another zombie movie. I think I will finish season 1.

This guy does a great job of breaking down chess games, and he does this for the show The Queen's Gambit, which takes Chess incredibly seriously. Watching the player talk shop in the series is incredible as it all feels natural and it doesn't matter if you don't understand it because it's extremely believable that essentially every character does. The games in the series are all based off actual games.

I just finished The Queen's Gambit. I looked up the cinemotographer, Steven Meizler, because the photography was excellent. He hasn't actually done much work as a DP though I wasn't surprised to see he's been working on camera crews for 30 years, and on some big films. Spielberg hired him for almost all his films between 93-2010

Also watching The Queen's Gambit - 4 eps in. I agree - the cinematography is excellent. Some damn fine editing, too - pacing is pretty much perfect.

And the acting is superb. Anya Taylor-Joy is utterly believable - and captivating - as the protagonist. She does not disappoint.
