Hey friends and fellow TV watchers. Just as a reminder, NBC's new streaming service Peacock launched today: https://www.peacocktv.com/
It's free (ad-supported), and has some very good content, plus originals (like the Saved by the Bell reboot, and the above-mentioned Brave New World). Definitely worth the price (zero).
I'm curious to see how the free streaming model does for them.

This is a general factoid that I just learned the other day.
Even though everyone thinks Ricky Ricardo's catchphrase was "Lucy! You got some splaining to do!" He never once uttered that phrase in the entire run of the I Love Lucy show.
It's part of the Mandela effect where everyone seems to remember him saying it numerous times yet it never actually happened.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?
Ricky did say 'splain or 'spensive a lot on the show and Lucy always made fun of it.
The line has been said in a lot of parodies over the years. I think that's what people are remembering.

Looks like the free Peacock option actually doesn't get you full access to all of their stuff, even with ads. Bummer. Their originals, for instance, you can watch the first one or two episodes, but not the whole season.
Yeah, I think the MadTV sketches had a lot to do with people remembering that phrase from I Love Lucy incorrectly.

Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini both with a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for "Dead to Me"! YESS!! TRUTH!
What am I missing? This succession show won a ton of shit at the Globes or something a while back. Now it pulls down a shit load of nominations. What am I missing? I know zero people in real life that watch the show. I never hear anyone talk about. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone here mention the show. Again, what am I missing?

Succession? On HBO? I'm not looking it up what channel. I enjoyed the first season and the second season I thought was great. It is a dark comedy about a filthy rich family owning a huge portion of media and the siblings are messed up and fight amongst themselves for who will eventually take over. I really like this show! We don't know each other, I am a real person, so you sort of know someone that watches it .
Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality. Edgar Allan Poe
No, that counts. I know you from the boards. I have to say though, have you ever mentioned it around here before though? I'm not opposed to watching the show and I'm sure it's good, I just don't hear much about it. It's not like it's on some obscure channel either. We are talking about HBO. I watch so many shows on there.

My aunt watches (and recommended) Succession, but the plot description just didn't really do anything for me. I've been more into more dark horror/thriller stuff this summer: Mr. Mercedes, NOS4A2, City of Angels. Looking forward to starting season 2 of Castle Rock soon.
Also, I've been watching the 60s Batman series recently and it's so fun and ridiculous and campy. The last episode had the Joker calling his henchwoman on a hotdog and planning to kidnap a surfer and transfer his knowledge of surfing into Joker's head so he could win the Gotham City surfing tournament.
A NEW GAME BEGINS
Im rewatching the west wing. I forgot how great that show was.

I have written on Succession a couple of times while I was binging it. The show is brilliant. Bryan Cox is, well, Bryan Cox - always superb. Kieran Culkin is the surprise of the group - the stuff that comes out of his mouth is so funny. The dynamic duo of Nicholas Braun and Matthew Macfadyen (who was so good on MI5) are like Laurel and Hardy. And one of my favorite tv moments of all time comes when Jeremy StrongSpoiler:Can't wait for season three.
My current binge is Line of Duty. OMG this show is good. The writing is right up there with my favorite show of all time, The Wire. The dialog in the interview room scenes are so intense, and the plotting so intricately woven. Blink and you many miss out on key information. If you have not seen it, please check it out. I'm nearing the end of season 4 and loving it.
