Breaking Bad isn't in my holy trinity. It's not even in my top five. It's really good, but I didn't love it as much as most people. Parts about the second season and the last season bugged me. But seasons 3 and 4 were pretty much TV perfection, and the last few episodes were solid. It hit peak for me though with the Season Four finale and this line

That's ridiculous. No offense. I'm not sure any show is good enough to rewatch that many times in such a short span.

I would love to rewatch a bunch of shows, but I just have too much other stuff to get to first.

I couldn't get through the first 4 episodes of Mad Men, let alone the whole series 4 times. I am purchasing them on DVD, so I will get to them when I retire maybe.
I've also rewatched Sopranos, Six Feet Under (I'm actually 1 season into my 5th rewatch), Battlestar Galactica, LOST, In Treatment, 24, Frasier, South Park, Seinfeld and Arrested Development through multiple times each. I don't have cable and I haven't for years so I don't think it's ridiculous at all since can't just turn on a TV and watch new shows. I'm mostly limited to borrowing DVDs of people or downloading. To me ridiculous is watching a dozen or more TV shows over the course of a year, like my dad who has like 20 series going at any given time. I don't see how rewatching Mad Men is any different than rewatching some movies when I could be watching new movies.

I hate to say it, but you waited too long. I had a feeling that would happen. You waited until me, Feev and every other person in America blew our load on the show and then you watched it. You may disagree, but I can guarantee you would have enjoyed the show more if you had jumped in when everybody else did.

I still loved Citizen Kane despite an entire lifetime of hearing it's the greatest movie of all time. I really liked Breaking Bad and hype didn't effect it. The whole foreshadowing build up in season two had an unsatisfying ending, and I thought the first 8 episodes of the final season were maybe the weakest of the show. These things would have irritated me a lot more than they did if I were watching week to week. I just don't love it as much as other people. More a difference in taste than watching it too late. I'm not saying it's a bad show. It's a damn good show. I just like other shows more.

The Citizen Kane example doesn't work for me. It's two hours and then it's done.

Part of the beauty of great TV is waiting a whole week to watch between episodes. The build-up, the anticipation, the discussion - it's just not there if you're binging on it. I truly feel Breaking Bad is one of those shows that benefits from breathing room. Especially between seasons. There's something that adds to the allure of a show when it's something you're forced to look forward to.

I know you didn't hate it, but I still think you might have been able to appreciate the greatness a little more if you were following along week by week.

Maybe. It's hard to say for sure. Other shows I would rank higher I also binge watched and never watched live, like Mad Men and Six Feet under, and I only watched the final season of Sopranos as it aired.

I actually thought Breaking Bad functions amazingly as a binge show since there isn't any gaps in time between the seasons and the whole story only takes place over what, 18 months? Less? That was one of my favourite things about the show, that it told such a condensed story. I remember making jokes that it's been five years and the guy still hasn't died of cancer, that seems unrealistic lol, until I watched the show and saw how they structured it. Even if I did like it more when it aired, I'd probably enjoy it less on a rewatched when all those intangible elements are gone and I'm just taking it as is. Or maybe I'd love it more, I dunno. I'll end up rewatching it at some point in the future and I might like it even more. I don't think people raving about it made me like it less though. Sopranos was heralded as the greatest TV show ever made by the time I watched it and it's still hard to argue with that claim.

I'm glad you were able to block out all the praise for Breaking Bad. It's not easy to do.

People told me Mad Men was amazing. I was expecting to be floored. I wasn't. I moved on.

Has there ever been an awards show that didn't rudely interrupt acceptance speeches with loud music?

Odd. The UK has Taboo airing Saturday nights. I obviously had to watch it. They said "fuck" 3 times that I can recall. I know that won't happen on FX. The show was shot "dark" like The Strain and Penny Dreadful. I really liked it a lot and the show has so much potential. I'm excited for this one!

FX allowed the use of "fuck" on The People Vs. O.J. Simpson

That doesn't mean it's the best movie ever. It's also misleading because it won in the Comedy/Musical category. A category that is usually pretty light on great films.

La La Land is fantastic though.

Amazon announced the launch date for Ronja the Robber’s Daughter. This is the new epic new series directed by Goro Miyazaki, animated by Polygon Pictures and co-produced by Studio Ghibli, based on Astrid Lindgren’s classic novel. It will start streaming on January 27th.

The English adaptation was produced by David Freedman in London with a mostly British cast – with top British talent including the legendary Adrian Edmonson (The Young Ones, Star Wars) Rufus Hound, Gillian Anderson and an odd cameo by Swampy Marsh of Phineas & Ferb.

The story follows Ronja, a young girl whose father is the chief of a tribe of bandits. The live in a huge castle in the forest with the bandits. In this story Ronja encounters mystical creatures as she explores and experiences life in the forest. Somewhere along the lines she makes friends with another young child much like herself. The title is based on the fantasy story Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, written by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

I need to get back to watching Veep. What little I saw of the first season was okay, it just wasn't The Thick of It. Matt, I swear to you, The Thick of It is fucking comedy gold. Made me a fan of Peter Capaldi for life, that show did. Go for that first, if you can.

Finally finished The Wire. I had put it off for ages because, frankly, I didn't want the show to be over. But I needed a massive boost in quality after how frustrating True Detective's 2nd season was. Honestly, I didn't think it was quite as bad as a lot of people made it out to be, but it definitely had some major problems.

There's just way too much good television. I hardly watch scripted shows any more because I just can't keep up. I still watch Game of Thrones, American Horror Story and Supernatural (which was just renewed for a 13th season!)I did watch the first season of American Crime Story, excellent! I got fed up with The Walking Dead at the beginning of season 4 and haven't gone back since.

Is anyone else watching the mini-docu series called Is OJ Innocent? I must say they are bringing out some alarming details about the case. The opinion still seems to be that OJ was there that night but maybe, possibly his son, Jason, is the one that did one or both of the murders.
