Welcome to the site, metalunna. Good question.
When the boys got to Mejis the people had been preparing for the big wedding hard already so I don't think they spent there more than 3 months.

Roland would have understood.
Yeah, I would have said 3 to 4 months. Not sure if it's ever specified in the Book.
I would agree on the 3 or 4 months, that's how I've always seen it anyway.
i think it was more than that. I recall Cuthbert saying something about how they (the fisherman) lauh at them, because they've been counting fishing nets for almost a month, and at that time they had been there six months or so.
I would have said about 4-5 months.

Yea id say 6 months or so cause they were really takin there time counting up everything in that city.
I want to thank everyone for their thoughts...and for not getting all Bulletin Boardy on me by saying things like..."there is no way to judge it because time was stretched" and "Use the Search"

I am listening on audio book so its too hard to go back and check.
on the 3 boys first official day in hambry, they are are riding to the high sherrifs building. Roland tell Cuthbert to take the look out off his saddle. The book says Cuthbert stuffed it in his saddle bag.
When they are leaving the sheriff's, Avery looks at the rook on the saddle.
I can sort of understand inconsistencies between books, but within the same chapter???
Or did I just listen to things wrong?
i think that was something that i caught when reading the book, i think.. can't be sure tho as i don't have this book and it's my least favorite... anyway things like that don't bother me as much as typos and the such... i mean... what is the editor paid for??
Human kind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth.
When Roland didn't see it Cuthbert took it out again just to piss off everyone. But it wasn't written down. That's all.
Roland would have understood.
Our pleasure. Don't hesitate to ask. Don't forget we all are DT junkies.
Roland would have understood.
They were away for five months. Several weeks of travel in each direction and three months in Mejis itself.
By the time they get back to Gilead, a total of five months has elapsed since Roland challenged Cort. ("And Roland's face, although still that of a boy, is not the open, untried face of the one who idled up this same corridor five months before.")
When Susannah visited Rhea at the beginning, she was told that she couldn't bed Thorin again until the Reaping festival in three months. That pretty much defines the tenure of the three gunslingers in Mejis.
When Depape found out about the three gunslingers traveling toward Mejis, two months had elapsed, so this reinforces that timeline.
now how did i know that bev would have the answer?
thanks!
actually, letti i was going to say the same thing. it just seemed like such a cuthbert thing to do.
Quick question. What is the significance of the horn and just because Roland has it how would that change the outcome for him and save his soul.
Another one. What is the Crimson King exactly? It seems to me like he's the devil himself.
May I answer you with a thread? It's a very important question. It's worth to read. It's quite long.
It would be great to read your opinion over there, too.

Don't be angry with me but we have a thread for this one as well.

Anyway we don't get much information about him in the series. YOu can find much more in the comics.
Roland would have understood.
Here's my short answer: It's an indication that the version of Roland who is beginning the important stage of his journey is a BETTER version than the one in the books to date. He wasn't so focused on his mission that he couldn't stop for a second to recover the valuable item. The horn itself doesn't mean anything--the fact that he looked away from the Tower for a second does. It means he might not be so hasty about sacrificing friends in the future, for example.
Thank you, That's a very good point. Maybe this version of Roland with the horn is a better Roland. I am still not sure if he will ever cry off the tower.
I don't think that's the point of it all, he's not supposed to cry off his quest. Perhaps he's supposed to arrive at the tower with all of his ka-tet. Then maybe he can become the king he is meant to be and will have his inner circle already.

I think he's meant to save the Tower, but not to enter it. Entering it is a sign of hubris--that he presumes to know the meaning of existence.
I don't think it matters if his Ka-tet would arrive with him or not. The Dark Tower is his quest. In my opinion he needs to cry off the tower to save his soul.
