That's How Strong My Love Is - Otis Redding
Knock On Wood - Otis Redding & Carla Thomas (Eddie Floyd cover)
Hard to Handle - Otis Redding
Ton of Joy - Otis Redding
And this concludes my tribute to Otis Redding for today. Greatest male singer ever.
Now we move on to today's other birthday tribute, to the great Elvin Jones.
NP: Impressions - John Coltrane
1963, Impulse! Records
One of many many great Trane albums featuring Elvin Jones on the drums.
Night Shift...Stir it Up - O.A.R.
Bill Frisell with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones
2001, Nonesuch Records
So Far Away - Dire Straits
you're solid gold // i'll see you in hell
Indeed it is. A tremendously good album by three exceptional musicians. By far one of my favorites in Frisell's vast catalog of great albums. I'd have bought it anyway because it's Frisell, but I was intrigued by his choice of Holland and Jones as rhythm section, and it did not disappoint in the least. Alas, Elvin is gone, but I do wish Frisell would bring in Dave Holland again at some point for another session.
And the album cover is pretty f'n sweet as well.
Machismo - Gomez
you're solid gold // i'll see you in hell
And now the final album in my afternoon tribute to Elvin Jones...
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil
1965, Blue Note Records
The line-up on this album is an all-star affair for sure.
Wayne Shorter - saxophone
Freddie Hubbard - trumpet
Herbie Hancock - piano
Ron Carter - bass
Elvin Jones - drums
"It's HERBIE Hancock!"
Anyway...
Superunknown - Soundgarden
you're solid gold // i'll see you in hell
The Day That Never Comes-Metallica
Three Mile Smile - Aerosmith
All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
It Won't Be Long - The Beatles
This album:
What a masterpiece.
