Today would have been Otis' birthday. There has never been a male singer like Otis and there likely never will be. I have a lot of Otis in my library and it will be getting a lot of play today.

A Change Is Gonna Come - Otis Redding (Sam Cooke cover)
It'll be Otis all morning.
There is another musical hero of mine who was also born on June 9th, the legendary drummer Elvin Jones. For my money, he's the greatest drummer in the history of music.
So this afternoon I will be playing a lot of Coltrane and several other great albums on which Elvin played (which will definitely include the album he did with Bill Frisell and Dave Holland).
Not a bad double musical birthday to celebrate.
NP: Papa's Got a Brand New Bag - Otis Redding (James Brown cover)
Cigarettes and Coffee - Otis Redding
Down In the Valley - Otis Redding (Solomon Burke cover)
Security - Otis Redding
Just One More Day - Otis Redding
