Wow. When I heard this was a "crime" novel, i didn't think it would be my cup of tea. I didn't realise that the label "crime" applies as much to it as "fantasy" does to Harry Potter. Bloody hell. Fifty pages in, and already I'm thinking that Lisbeth Salander is one of the most interesting and compelling characters in literature since Sherlock Holmes. And I do not say that lightly!

I've heard people say that she's over the top (and the turns in the story are too grim), but I liked her, too.

@Ricky: Personally, I did not feel that the story dragged too much - there were some bits that were relatively slow-paced, but overall I did not feel like skipping pages. Especially in the 1st book of the series.

I didn't realize that the label "fantasy" did not apply to Harry Potter less than 100%. But there are a lot of genre novels which have no creativity.

Just finished Swan Song. I really enjoyed it. It was a little slow in the middle at times, but there were some really great parts that I felt made up for it. The only things I would've liked a little more expansion on were
    Spoiler:
a little more background on the glass ring and Alvin/Friend (kind of like SK did with Flagg's internal dialogue about all the places he'd been to and destruction he'd caused) and closure on if Josh's and Artie's family were alive.
Overall, I'm really glad I read it.

She's a very intriguing character, no doubt, but the level of realism Stieg was going for doesn't reconcile with the way he wrote Salander. It's hard to buy that a character that looks like she just walked off the set of a KISS video can remain undetectable for so long, ya know ?

Royal Assassin (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 2) by Robin Hobb.

I had never heard of these and just happened across them. They are really good.

I finished book 2 of the Otherland series, book 3 starting tomorrow. I am loving it!
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

You're right of course in that in real life she would be noticed. But at the same time I can't help but think of people whom we dismiss as freaks, weirdos and the like - yes, we notice them, but do we know what they are up to?

The Dead Zone is one of King's best.
I am almost finished with The Dead Zone and it is one of my favorite SK books. Johny is also one of favorite characters in an SK book. No matter how many times I read it, I still get caught up in the story. I never get bored with it. I still find parts of the book surprising.

I have always said that The Dead Zone never got enough credit. I would say it is just as good as "Salem's Lot or The Shining.

Back in January I started reading Stephen King books in order of Publication. I started with Carrie and now I am finishing The Dead Zone. I wonder if I will get through to reading all of Stephen King's books?
