I consider that a matter of personal preference, and not a reflection of directing talent.

I cant fucking stand romantic comedy, as a genre, but that doesnt mean that the director of any particular title from that genre is untalented.

    Blasphemy! lol

I think Eastwood is fantastic because his directing skills are utterly simplistic. Look at say, Mystic River. There is no fancy camera work, every shot is very simple yet meticulously placed. Eastwood makes up for his lack of intense visuals with his amazing ability to bring out the best in his actors. There is a reason why so many of the movies he directs wins acting awards or nominations at oscars. He truly understands the source material and how to convey it to actors which is a quality many modern day directors do not have.

Why, of course. I mean, if a visual effect works for the story, emphasizes the message, enhances the understanding of the characters, provides a metaphor etc., I am all for it; that's why I said "normally".

This one's a really tough group. Eastwood or Cameron. Eastwood's films are dramatic and mesmerizing, while Cameron's are driving and captivating. Very hard choice, but I'm pulled toward Cameron because of Aliens, T2, and The Abyss (though Titanic nearly knocks him out all together).
Margaret Emmie Mackey Catoe, you are, have been, and always will be my soulmate, and I love you.

This was merely meant to illustrate that your tastes seem to differ, at least if these polls are a meaningful reflection, from that of the mainstream public.

......and both Cameron's and Tarantino's works have been very popular.
