The first five polls have closed, and Wave 2 has begun. Please vote!

By the way, anyone else find it weird that The Green Mile (1996) is the most recent book in this final round? Last year, The Dark Tower (2004) made it, but fell way out this time. Looking ahead to our 3rd annual CRAs, which post Green Mile book, except DT7 do you think will make it into the Top Ten?

The first wave (of three) of Round 3 polls has come to an end. As expected, I guess, the leading top three books (The Stand, DT2, and It) have swept their contests. Although the seedings were done completely randomly by automated round-robin tournament creator, funnily enough The Stand faced the bottom three books (Different Seasons, The Talisman, and Pet Sematary). Speaking of the bottom, three books have been shut out thus far in Round 3: Pet Sematary, 'Salem's Lot, and The Green Mile. I hope they do better in the next two waves.

Here's how the standings now look after Wave 1:

    01. The Stand
    02. The Drawing of the Three
    03. It
    04. The Shining
    05. The Waste Lands (up from 6)
    06. Different Seasons (up from 8)
    07. The Talisman (up from 9)
    08. The Green Mile (down from 5)
    09. 'Salem's Lot (down from 7)
    10. Pet Sematary

Due to technical difficulties with the notices (that remind and urge you to vote), all Wave 2 polls have been extended by two days. In turn, the Wave 3 polls have been delayed two days, so as not to overwhelm anyone. Please do not forget to vote!

Before today we had three books with zero points thus far. That changed when Wave 2B closed just now. 'Salem's Lot has finally earned its first victory of the final round, facing off against another pointless opponent, The Green Mile. Now, in Wave 3B that just opened today, The Green Mile is facing off with another book with zero points, Pet Sematary. Both books can earn points before that, though looking at it that seems unlikely to happen.

Last year only one book had zero points throughout the third round (Different Seasons). All others had at least two. The Stand swept the round with nine points, but no book had eight.

I'm shocked Pet Sematary hasn't won one yet. At least it made it into the top 10 this year. It definitely deserves to be there.

All Wave 2 polls have closed now, and all Wave 3 polls are open and will close late next week. Then will have our true Top Ten, and, of course, our 2010 Best Book Award winner (anyone have a wild guess as to which that might be? ).

Here's how the standings now look after Wave 2:

    01. The Stand - 8.299695122
    02. It (up from 3) - 8.041979950
    03. The Drawing of the Three (down from 2) - 7.958128079
    04. The Shining - 7.818167267
    05. The Waste Lands (up from 6) - 7.754834055
    06. The Talisman (up from 9) - 7.606523264
    07. 'Salem's Lot - 7.445284238
    08. Different Seasons - 7.424465812
    09. The Green Mile (down from 5) - 7.358091787
    10. Pet Sematary - 7.258059778

    I very much hope so.

Although I personally wish it would be Black House, Desperation, and Duma Key... and only then Under the Dome.

If next time we vote The Dark Tower as a single book, as has been suggested by some, I hope some of the above can really make it.

(I would also be very curious to know how TDT stood against The Stand...)

Ladies and gentlemen! The second annual Constant Reader Awards have come to an end today with the closing of our final wave of third round polls. Thank you so much for your continued participation! The final results will shortly be tabulated and posted. It has been extremely fun doing this once again, and I'm hoping, with the blessings of our directors, to continue in 2011.

Not that it needs to be said, but The Stand, for the second year in a row, is TheDarkTower.com's Best Book Award winner! It even earned more points this time: 8.599695122 (96.63%) as opposed to 8.425725232 (94.67%) last year, an increase of 0.173969890 (+2.02%).
