The Dark Tower film is being postponed
Exclusive: The adaptation of Stephen King's books will shift from February to summer
Principal photography for the Nikolaj Arcel-directed film wrapped on schedule in late July, but the plan to have a completed film ready to screen six months later proved to be overly ambitious. Now, Sony Pictures and production company MRC have decided post-production can’t be finished in that timeframe and are about to inform theater owners of the change.

Kind of a bummer but actually good news.
THIS IS GREAT NEWS guys. Shows they are getting it right. I expect a few re-shoots and more attention to detail.. PLUS a wider audience... they may think they have a Summer blockbuster here it is so good..... this is a great thing. I am pumped now and this is NOT a bummer!!!

More time to speculate. Yay.
Eastasia has always taught college students to feel pride or shame according to their race.
Ugh so disappointed
It could be a marketing strategy. Star Wars: Rogue One apparently went through massive reshoots and retooling after the teaser trailer and some marketing got leaked. It gave them an opportunity to see what the fans really wanted and likely were able to shift a little bit.
We all had some gripes about what we saw, if it gives them time to make a better movie - I'm all for it. I've waited some 25 years to see this movie - hell, I can wait a few more months if it makes it better. I really never thought it would be made - I'm still excited just for that.
Well, word of an adaptation first hit in February 2007, so it would've been a nice way to mark the 10th anniversary of that occasion. But this will give them more time to make a better movie and probably have a wider audience.
It's not that it wasn't good enough they just didn't have the time and the studio decided not to rush it. It shows they have faith in the movie and also that they think it can survive in the summer movie pool. Feb is actually where good movies go to die. This is great news for the movie.
Obviously, we don't know the date, and I'm sure they'll look for the optimal place, but some big movies are hitting your local multiplex next summer:
May: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baywatch, Life, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
June: Wonder Woman, The Mummy, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Transformers: The Last Knight
July: Spider-Man: Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Jumanji
August: Alien: Covenant
Followed, of course, by It in September.
As others mentioned, this news is bitter sweet. I'm a little sad I'll have to wait an additional few months, but I'm all for it if it means a better end product.
Also let's be honest, no one should really be that surprised since the proposed turn around time was always more than a little ambitious.
Looking at this schedule, May may be their best bet. Life and Baywatch are aimed at a slightly different crowd.
The trick is to carve out a 2 week window where they can corner the targeted demographic.
I don't think I've ever heard Arcel's last name pronounced before -- I wouldn't have guessed it had a hard 'c'

Ms. Mod posted: "Have heard from Sony that the new release date is July 28, 2017."

So in July we have:
July 7: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Spider-Man: Homecoming
July 14: War for the Planet of the Apes
July 21: Pitch Perfect 3, Dunkirk, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
July 28: nothing yet
So July 28 looks like a good choice.

My feeling is that this bodes well for the quality of the film. Moving a film from February to the summer means the studio thinks they have something marketable. Personally, I was worried with February, which is traditionally a dumping ground for films. Very excited now.
