    Halloween Kills.

This purported second of a trilogy to wrap the franchise up, does little to move the story forward and simply is an exercise in gore. Although the music is a classic, and will get the blood pumping, everything else is almost tedious. 3/6 beers on the RFSRS.

That's generous. I was simply going to say a bunch of stupid people I care little about get killed by a guy in a mask. It is well shot and the pace is steady, there's that. It's really quite a bizarre experience. I'm sure test audiences saw this, what must they have had before changing to this??

Fun drinking game though...every time someone says EVIL DIES TONIGHT! take a shot.

Maybe once the trilogy is complete and all three can be watched back-to-back a difference will be made....hopefully.

The film has a huge protagonist problem. There's really no main character. The choice to begin where the previous film left off was a poor one. It means that Laurie must spend the entire film in the hospital.

A simple solution was to fast forward the clock. She gets a knock on the door. The body they found in the house was NOT Michael Myers. Problem solved.

Yes. This is one of the main problems. Just to add to that, it was largely the PTSD aspect and JLC's performance that made H 18 as good as it was. To sideline and have her doing speeches about evil and go off on this mob violence plot just did not work. Everyone in that movie seems completely insane given their actions. It could almost be argued that MM himself is actually the main character but the whole thing just feels empty in a way I can't really grasp. I'm going to watch it again just to give it a fighting chance.

I watched Halloween Kills last weekend. I was really excited for it, and then I saw everyone go on social media friday night and bash it. I think that tampered down my expectations so I actually enjoyed it. Does it have it's flaws, yes, and lots of them.
    Spoiler:
I guess my biggest issue was how is Michael this superhuman that can wipe out an entire fire department, not to mention the mob so easily. Also one of things I loved about Michael from the original is how he does embody the boogeyman. He's slow, but he's always there. It makes it way creepier than having him rush out at someone.

That said I absolutely loved all the easter eggs in the film. And I'm sure there's still plenty in there that I didn't catch.

Yep, it was awesome. What was even more impressive was that if you didn't read the book or know much lore, it was written quite well into the dialogue. My hat off to Denis V...

To the best of my recollection and after viewing the film, all that is true. However, call me clueless but where is the rest of the story? This film taking pointers from "IT"? I do not recall seeing anywhere that this was to be a 2 parter.

I'm going to give Dune a 4/5. The last act really dragged...was likely a solid place to split the narrative, but as a climax for a singular experience it was very underwhelming. Never read the book or saw Lynch's Dune and all I knew about the story was Spice and Big Sand Wyrms. The filmmaking itself gives my rating a boost because the story is just okay so far.

From what I heard, if the movie does well, there will be a part 2. That makes zero sense for how much money studios poor into bad movies that don't make money. Then again, why am I not surprised. Let's hope Dune kills it. There has yet to be an announcement for the making of part 2.

They didn't make a big deal out of it but the plan was always to do the first book in two films. IMDB even lists the original film title as 'Dune: Part One'. I love how spreading it out over two films gives the story a chance to breath, e.g., not forcing a fire-hose of backstory exposition in the opening 3mins, not rushing off Caladan in 2mins, etc. I also like the choice for breakpoint between the 2 films. And as much as I was really wary of Chalamet as Paul Atreides I think he did an excellent job. Definite thumbs up for this one and I'm really happy I can stream a re-watch on HBO Max.
Alright, we'll call it a draw.

It's not inaccurate. If you objectively compare all the Lore/Backstory in the first third and all the action/events in the middle third with the not much of anything in the last third, you'll see there is a tremendous imbalance.
    Spoiler:
They escape in the thing through a sandstorm, they crash, they walk through the desert, run from a Wyrm, find some Frennim and Paul has to fight to the death. Somewhere in there Jason Mamoa fights for 90 seconds and dies, and that was spoiled earlier in the movie so it had no effect. And it takes 30+ minutes. It's easily the slowest part of the film with the least amount of storytelling. It just didn't do it for me, especially as the closing portion of a 150 minute film. It dragged. I know it dragged because I kept thinking it was about to end only to keep going, multiple times.

I'm begging you. Please, please, please go see Dune in theaters. If we want film as we know it to continue, we have to support films like Dune. It needs to be seen on the big screen.

I watched it yesterday and I'm still processing it, but I'm pretty sure it's a masterpiece. I'm really concerned that we won't get a second film.

This is The EXACTLY the movie that theatres are all about. It needs to make over half a billion easy to break even. It’s brilliant, and I have already booked another viewing. I have no issues with this movie like Mattick being picky above… it’s perfect and a solid 10/10 for me.

I for once went to the theater to see this and support this movie and genre. I loved it and hope it does well. I told everyone last week I was going to the theater last week, and today at work told everyone how awesome it was. First weekend nation wide was 210 million? Hopefully it hits where it needs to to get the second movie. Of course, Denis V must be the director.

The internet, for what that is worth, stated it cost at least 165 million to make Dune. I'm not sure how much it cost to promote, but won't there be part two? I heard in an interview from someone that Denis V was hinting there will be a second film. Fingers crossed!

This is The EXACTLY the movie that theatres are all about. It needs to make over half a billion easy to break even. It’s brilliant, and I have already booked another viewing. I have no issues with this movie like Mattick being picky above… it’s perfect and a solid 10/10 for me.

It's not being picky at all. My issues with this film as a singular film might be erased when the next one comes out and it creates a more cohesive and full narrative and makes those issues less important. But at the end of the film I wasn't left with a burning desire for Part 2, which for me is a big detriment to the film considering it is Part One; I was left with the feeling of "yeah, I'll watch a second one if it ever gets made". At the end of IT or Kill Bill or Lord of the Rings, I first films I was left wanting more and was already anticipating the next one. I'm not with Dune. Being picky is complaining about little details that don't really matter...I'm complaining about a 30-40 minute stretch of the movie being poorly paced and anticlimactic and kind of dull. It's not being picky if you have significant issues with a third of the film. You disagreeing with those issues being doesn't mean I'm just being a nitpicker because me qualms are much bigger than nitpicks.

And to say my experience with the film is inaccurate is inaccurate. I don't agree with you saying it's a basically perfect film and no single scene in it dragged, but I can't call it inaccurate because it's your own experience. If you're going to be so bold as to say my experience is wrong, at least provide a counter argument to help me see things from your perspective other than telling me "It's perfect", which I can't do anything with. If you think it's perfect tell me why it's perfect.

I, ashamedly, have not seen Dune yet because my girl is out of town until the weekend and forbade me from watching it without her

Rest assured though, the minute she's back we'll be catching it. Shit imma tell her to just be ready to go as soon as I pick her up from the airport LOL
