Agreed - Amazon's packaging (for books) sucks! At least you can return and re-return and re-re-return as needed until you get a nice copy. My worst experience took four copies to get an undamaged...

Priority Mail is usually quite a bit faster than Media Mail. The amount of time spent being thrown about is reduced.
Priority Mail also provides $50 of insurance.
