I believe that Roland encounters Brown just prior to entering the desert...therefore "the man in black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed..." should have occurred sometime after...
I'm glad my comments have yielded some discussion....
lux your point is well taken and it is one that I raised as well when reading that segment. In my post I indicated that Roland would likely...
I would agree that Brown is a very interesting character. He is definately a plot device to allow Roland to tell his backstory at the onset, however I always thought of him as more, particularly...

This is a thread that hits close to home....I just read this in a recent re-read of WOTC, just yesterday in fact.
Not much has been said about these events in...

Its been awhile...nice to be discussing the Tower again...while its been awhile since I have read this book, it remains one of my favorite and partially due to the doors and...
I really like this chapter in book one as it signifiies the first step, a very crucial one, in the development of Roland's character.
But first I wanted to say a bit about the changes in the...
I would tend to agree with this...one thing I really liked about the evolution of this story was the evolution of Roland as a character. In the original he blows her away without a second...
I like the concept of Walter conjouring up Brown to fuck with him...but if my recollection serves the only other time that Roland saw him was when he traveled in the grapefruit for the first...
This for me has always been one of the best parts of the book for me as well....Roland, even at quite a young age, is not one to be lightly.
This is an interesting line of thought, thanks for everyones input....I have always thought that Brown and the red head were very closely related and perhaps one and the same. There are a few other...
Spoilers abound....including Wizard and Glass...hope I can post this here.
Looks like this is going to be a great thread. I just actually started a re-read of the series and just got past...
I loved The Talisman...it has a great feel of adventure, more epic than Black House which was a much different book.
I don't think that the connections to the Tower in The Talisman were...
I would have to agree with a lot of you guys....I was Ok with the ending but parts of how we got there really let me down...
The whole bit with Randall Flagg. I had been reading about this...
It would be impressive if this could be done right....particularly in light of all this "reality TV" we are inundated with.
To date my vote is for Shawshank...am impressive read and a great movie.
I like the way the revised seems to foreshadow events to come and seems more tied into the other books...however for me the original takes the cake, I love the way that it was written and I still go...
Ole Ticky....and Richard Fannin. Gotta love em.

I'll admit it was long, but like Matt said it was necessary and key....the long story telling and palaver over that single night was the one event that for me drew the ka-tet very closely together,...
Its gotta be Roland...he is the heart of the ka-tet, even if it appears at times he lacks one. If it was not for him, the ka-tet would not have come together...however it is through them that Roland...
I agree, the interactions between Roland and Eddie in early books are memorable...I think this interaction even enhanced their relationship as they grew closer.
