Rahfa - I agree. I am listening to the audiobook of Freedom and it's amazing. You are right though, it's not some thriller with an amazing pay-off but the language is fantastic.

Last night was the book signing for Jonathan Franzen here in New York and it was the first time I had attended a reading of his and/or even seen him in person. Rahfa, I have to say, my opinion of him...
Holy crap you do?! Wow - super cool. I have a BA in English and a BA in Comp Lit. How cool! Had no idea.
Yeah - Franzen is still garbage.
Agree 1,000,000%. I don't see ANYONE reading his books and if I do, they are usually on page 10 and looking very confused. It's almost like he is mocking us by having his writing, literally,...
Lastly, here is the only signed limited edition Franzen has done. There are 200 numbered copies and 26 lettered copies.

Last 2 things on Franzen. The Corrections was released September 1, 2001 and his publicity tour was to start on September 12, 2001 in St. Louis. Well we all know what happened the day before so there...
I hate his writing. I hated The Corrections and I am HATING Freedom. It's almost like he is trying SO HARD to be literary. And the media is just eating him up...
Here is something else that I...
I am going to one of his signings here in NYC on Wednesday. I am afraid it's going to be a zoo too. I actually have a few things of Franzen's that are quite interesting. Here is a post card he sent...
Now the movie was unbearable... it's hard to capture that book on film. The same for the book vs. movie of "No Country For Old Men," but the Coen brothers did a really great job trying. The ending...
Did you guys see back in 2006 when the NYTimes asked 115 authors editors publishers, etc about the best book published in the past 25 years? King was one of the 115 actually.
Well Blood Meridian...

Which one do you have? I've been looking around for a SL of No Country For Old Men but it's in the thousands of dollars range so... I can still dream ;)[/QUOTE]

He is AMAZING. I once found this signed limited of Shutter Island that I had NO idea was ever printed. Apparently it wasn't for sale but I can't get verification of that... but to be honest, I can't...
Bob - those are beautifully done... would you share the publishers price?
Will check it out John. Never read anything by Simmons so this might be my introduction...!
Looks like it's on my list after I read Under the Dome!
I have that book - do you guys reccomend I read it? I have had it for a while, but... just been reading other things.
From 80$ to 500$ is a BIG difference!!! Jeez.
Ahhh. If you like vampires, True Blood is really an amazing show. Think about getting it on Netflix or maybe going to blockbuster. Or getting the DVDs on eBay... should you be interested, that is!...
John - those books are the basis of the HBO series "True Blood." One of my favorite shows on TV!
