That is a very astute observation brother bear. I always found the character a little dry and thought his capacity for humor greatly outweighed his ability for drama.
It's not that easy to remedy though since there is very little GOOD quality video of the Chaplin films available. It's been a few years since I tried to get some, but back then most of the Chaplin...
I would agree with you that The Tramp IS one of the greatest movie characters of all time, but I'm sure there are many here who have never seen the character in action.
