I don't know about the US, but around 2003 or so, the french distributor did a brand new audio recording so that the quality was satisfying for DVD.
And the audio recording is not quite as scary as...

I guess nobody really expected it, and they went fast.
Although, I guess it may makes sense. The book was officially released a little more than a year ago, so I guess the publisher thought it was...
