Best Sci-Fi Tournament - Round 2, Group A
-
Going with:
Akira
Cocoon
Contact
Them!
-
P.S.: That's the wrong "Them" poster, we're voting on the 1954 film:

Every time I hear the title "THEM!", I'm always reminded of the surprisingly major plot point of T-H-E-M in Sam & Max!
Right, what I voted for:
Akira
Dredd
Men In Black
Total Recall
-
Contact
Dredd
Total Recall
-
Akira
Dredd
Men In Black
Total Recall
-
Oh man, I can't vote for any. Out of the ones I've seen, I didn't care for any of them :(
-
What, not even Dredd, Heather? ;)
-
Contact! It's mind blowing.
-
Went with:
Contact
Dredd
Them!
Total Recall
-
Contact
ID4
Them!
Total Recall
I think "Contact" is a very under appreciated Sci-Fi film. I thought it was great introspective into how the world would handle finding out "we're not alone".
-
Hoping Contact goes all the way :) It's exactly what a sci-fi film should be.
-
Wow, pretty surprising to see such clear separation of the top four from the bottom four this early on.
-
I need to rewatch Contact pronto.
-
I've been meaning to watch Contact, but it just hasn't made it to the top of my list yet.
-
-
still a ways to go but I'm glad to see Dredd fighting for a spot in the top 4 ...
-
Finally watched "Dredd" today and while I enjoyed it, I would not have (and didn't) vote for it in this round. No really sound reason other than I feel the films I did vote for were more worthy entries.
-
Neither Dredd nor ID should be in the top four, I don't think.

Same here, bro. I didn't actually expect it to get that far when I nominated it (hence why it was mostly left until last minute), but I'm glad to see it's doing ok.

While I'd agree about ID, (although some of the special effects for that movie are still amazing even today,) I'd definitely say Dredd is much better than people give it credit for. Not just a tribute to the old-school era of cult films like John Carpenter movies and The Warriors, but it's a film that's beautiful to watch at times, even especially when its incredibly ultra-violent. There's also a nice number of little things like how focused the film is on Anderson's story more than Dredd and how it has a feministic streak to it that I really appreciate, too. But I can see why its not everyone's cup of tea, with its very simple and straightforward plot. It's why I'm pleased to see that it has made it this far, really.

Total Recall running away with this group..
-
A little upset that Cocoon seems to be done. Just rewatched it on TV recently and in HD. Awesome.
-
Independence Day with more votes than Contact? :rolleyes1:
