I think what Ralph was getting at was.....why the need to "brand" a flipper with an image?
In my opinion....doing so puts "stink" on that person.
I had a long response typed out, and lost connection at the moment I went to post (thus lost the 400 words).
I'll respond tomorrow, but flip all you wish, but at least don't try the bullshit stuff like: desperate for a friend, need this to complete my collection, etc.
The images were just meant to inspire passionate discussion. Much like a tattoo, a "flipper" brands themselves.
I don’t mind flippers. I just don’t like when someone takes advantage of newbies. But calls out others when doing the same thing
In my mind there are (at least) two types of flippers.
One type scours the web or bookstores or garage sales etc, for deals and then resales them for a profit. For that type, I say good for them! To some extent, we need those type of flippers, as not all of us have the desire or time to search.
The other type will preorder multiple copies of a hot book from the publisher, with the intention of only keeping at most one copy and selling the rest for a profit once the demand for the book has gone up. I personally don't care for this practice.
