Sometimes some do, yes. I'm certain enough of that. You're right that it can be pretty complicated, though.
I don't remember Roland ever actually refusing to talk about the Tower. I think we might indeed be able to guess what he wants to find, or at least what he hopes to find... but not without a pretty full thread.

I do think he will reach the top of the tower. As far as what I'd want him to find there: I have no idea. Hell, when I read the series, I couldn't even come up with the "perfect" ending in my head.
I guess my closest answer would be what someone else posted: Peace.

It's not just his life, it's his world. Remember when Roland reacted to Rando's claim that the land would heal and Susannah thought, "Maybe he does know how to win."? I think he really cares about so much, his perfect ending is more than man can do. They've lost a Supreme magic. He'll have no peace unless he finds God.

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why. It's actually changed. When I first read the series, it was Roland. My second and third read-throughs, Eddie. Now, I think I've settled on Susannah.
2. Favourite antagonist and why. Randall Flagg. Without a doubt. How could you not love the Walkin' Dude?
3. Favourite original ka-tet member. Cuthbert Allgood, all day, every day, twice on Sundays. Alain's great as well. Never much cared for Susan as a ka-tet member. And young Roland was kind of a ditz.
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid. Billy-bumblers. I would love one.
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower. Oh, for my eyes to gaze upon Gilead.
6. Most memorable quote. "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed."
7. Best fight scene. Roland versus Cort.
8. Favourite romance. Eddie Dean and Susannah.
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline. Patrick Danville. There's so much there that could've been done.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn too? The Turtle of enormous girth.
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event. Captain Trips-ravaged wasteland in "Wizard and Glass."
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out? At the top of the Tower. That's what Roland would find there.
13. The book you were most excited to read. The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower.
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't. I was kinda hoping we'd see the Losers or Mother Abagail.
15. Favourite artist from the series. Who else but Michael Whelan.
16. All time favourite moment from the series. The Riddle Contest.
17. Saddest moment. "I say thank you, Oy."
18. If you could pick (upto) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose? Cuthbert, Susannah, Alain, Oy.
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there? Yes. Hopefully, a better antagonist than "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

I've always loved Susannah, but I never cared for the direction her character was taken in Books 5 and 6. But her arc is so beautifully rendered in the seventh that it makes up for it. And in my latest re-read, I found her character to stand out (no pun intended) more than the others.

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why.
Roland. My reasoning is the same reasoning I have for Harry Potter being my favourite character from that series, because if there wasn't a Roland, there wouldn't be a story.
2. Favourite antagonist and why.
Marten et al, for the same reason.
3. Favourite original ka-tet member.
Apart from Roland? Yikes, that's too difficult to choose. Don't make me choose...
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid.
Oy. Oy is amazing.
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower.
River Crossing. I don't know why, I just like the place
6. Most memorable quote.
Spoiler:
This is Jake, who lived well, loved his own, and died as ka would have it.
Each man owes a death. This is Jake. Give him peace.”
7. Best fight scene.
Jake's and Eddie's in Song of Susannah
8. Favourite romance.
Eddie and Susannah
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline.
Aunt Talitha. I thought she was pretty cool.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn too?
Shardik
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event.
When they find themselves in Kansas in a Stand-like world.
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out?
Oh, I dunno. I expected him to live forever I guess.
13. The book you were most excited to read.
I'm not sure, because I kinda listened to them all in bulk, and I can't wait til I find all of the books, and I'll bulk read them too.
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't.
I actually hoped to see Stu and Frannie from The Stand, and the guy from the end of Cell- it just seemed like those worlds had moved on, and seeing them would have justified my thoughts.
15. Favourite artist from the series.
Umm...I'm really stuck on this one
16. All time favourite moment from the series.
When Jake gets Drawn
17. Saddest moment.
Spoiler:
I thought that losing Eddie, Jake and Oy so close together was devastating
18. If you could pick (upto) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose?
Can I take Roland, Jamie and Susannah, please?
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there?
I'd like to think that he will reach the top. As to what he'll find there...happiness, perhaps? I'm not sure.

Yes. It was a hard punch to the heart. I remember reading that last book was such a scary experience for me. All the characters I loved were dying off one by one, and I felt like Stephen King was just breaking my heart. :(

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why.
It's a toss up between Eddie and Roland for me. Eddie, because I relate to his pre-gunslinger life. Roland, well Roland's a badass, we all know that.
2. Favourite antagonist and why.
I have to go with Flagg. The Stand was the first SK book I read, and I've always "had a thing" for him since then.
3. Favourite original ka-tet member.
Seeing as I am into Eddie as much as I am, it should come as no surprise that Cuthbert Allgood is my final answer.
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid.
Oy. Simply put I'm an animal lover and Oy seems like he'd fit well with my 5 dogs.
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower.
I couldn't pick just one, but Lud, and Calla Bryn Sturgis come to mind right away.
6. Most memorable quote.
“We are going to fight. We are going to be hurt. And in the end, we will stand.” Roland.....in DotT(I think)
7. Best fight scene.
I wouldn't say it's the best but it's my favorite, the massacre at Tull. Pretty much sets the bar for Rolands badassery.
8. Favourite romance.
Mr & Mrs Dean
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline.
Does Shardik count as a background character? I could read a book or two of the rumblings and grumblings of a bear beam guardian.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn to?
See above.
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event.
I loved it when the ka-tet came across the newspaper that had the headline about Captain Trips.
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out?
I liked it, thought it was well deserved.
13. The book you were most excited to read.
Every book after The Gunslinger honestly. I had no clue what I was getting into when I started book I, so when I finished it, I immediately read the books as quickly as I could.
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't.
After the Captain Trips newspaper, I was hoping for an appearance of Nick, or even Harold.
15. Favourite artist from the series.
I really couldn't say. I don't like to look too much at the art while I read. It messes up the characters or places I've built in my mind.
16. All time favourite moment from the series.
Oh, man. Without putting much thought into it, I would have to say when Roland makes it to the Tower finally.
17. Saddest moment.
Death of Eddie had me in tears.
18. If you could pick (up to) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose?
I would take a 10 fingered Roland, both Mr and Mrs Dean, and Jake...............yeah, real original I know. Why fix what isn't broken?
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there?
I like to think that he'll end his quest, but I don't believe he ever truly will.

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why.
No doubts here for me, Roland
2. Favourite antagonist and why.
The easy answer is Flagg but I see Flagg as a non-person, just part of the universe. So I will go with Rhea of the Cöos, that woman was just plain evil and knew it.
3. Favourite original ka-tet member.
Cuthbert Allgood and his trusty sidekick “The Lookout”
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid.
Hands down Oy, with honorable mention to David and Zoltan.
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower.
This is a hard one considering how vast a universe it is. So I will go with Lud and leave it at that.
6. Most memorable quote.
Roland “Ka.”
Eddie “Ka Ka”
7. Best fight scene.
Another tough one since there were so many good fight scenes. Algul Siento
8. Favourite romance.
Eddie and Susannah
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline.
Brown and Zoltan, Cort comes in a close second.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn too?
The Bear Shardik
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event.
Father Donald Frank Callahan
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out?
King is a great writer and needs NO advice from me. However you asked so, dissatisfied
would be putting it mildly. As one post mentioned God with a nuke couldn’t even kill him so
how the heck did a punk kid do it so easily???? Flagg is part of the universe as much as
gravity is, he should of just ‘escaped’ to another when and another where. In all the books
in the all of the series it was the only time I thought “Come on King you are better then that.”
13. The book you were most excited to read.
All of them, I was hooked after “The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.”
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't.
There weren’t enough already?
15. Favourite artist from the series.
All of them, I loved the art from every book.
16. All time favourite moment from the series.
When Susannah leaves Roland and joins Ediie, Jake and Oy.
17. Saddest moment.
I have maybe cried 3 times in my adult life, a little over 40 years. I am a very emotional person but I see crying as something very personal and keep it to myself, but I have to admit I openly wept when Eddie dies. I knew I really liked his character but didn’t know how much until that moment.
18. If you could pick (upto) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose?
Oh the Nineteenth question. Roland, Callahan, Eddie and Oy.
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there?
No and he shouldn’t. His quest was to save the Tower not enter it. His punishment for doing so was the one thing that would hurt him the most, having to do it again. Yet it was also his reward for saving the Tower, his salvation. This time around with the aid of the horn he discovers the Tower is already saved and he will find a way to join Eddie, Susannah, Jake and Oy at the same scene mentioned in my answer to question 17.

Favorite protagonist...either Jake or Roland. I change my mind many times. Roland because I understand his jaded outlook on life and the resigned understanding that whoever he pulls into his life he will hurt, but he HAS to pull them into his life, because that is his 'destiny.' His undying devotion to finding the Dark Tower is questionable, but admirable. I feel his pain when he watches those around him die.
I think some people are just magnets of fate, and Roland will always be chasing his white rabbit.
Jake is also a favorite because...blaine IS a pain. And I hurt right along with him when his mentor let him fall.
I think we all have unconditionally loved someone or something that we knew would be our end, but it the end, love is

How do you know he didn't as in "The Stand"? I always thought that "Flagg" was a sort of mercenary, only aligned with the CK because it suited him at the time. A "Wild Card" if you will.

I dont think the timelines fit. According to this passage from DT VII, Flagg had already lived through The Stand's timeline (This quote could have referenced some other world however...)
"From his gunna the man who sometimes called himself Flagg (on another level of the Tower, he had brought an entire world to ruin under that name) had taken peanut butter and crackers."
Edit: YAY! my 2000th Post!

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why.
Cuthbert, because he died laughing, which is the next best thing to dying in your sleep. That and because he wore a rook skull for a lookout.
2. Favourite antagonist and why.
Flagg. He's the DT analogue for the Joker. Anarchists forever.
3. Favourite original ka-tet member.
Cuthbert. Again. Aileen, as she in the original edition of the Gunslinger, comes in second.
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid.
Throcken. Especially Oy. There's a slang word in Bavaria that rhymes with Throcken but I don't know if I should swear in here.
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower.
Lud, the Anarchist's Paradise.
6. Most memorable quote.
"I will show you a wonder."--Walter in The Gunslinger
7. Best fight scene.
A tie between the gunning down of Tull and the battle of Jericho Hill. Epic and intimate at the same time.
8. Favourite romance.
Roland and Aileen, circa '84.
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline.
Shardik, the ursine cyborg guardian. And his freunden, all eleven of them.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn to?
Centzontotochtin, the Hare. Rabbit gods are twice as horny as mortal ones.
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event.
When they walked into Standland in Wizard and Glass.
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out?
Not exactly dissatisfied, because the Flagg that died in DT7 was just one of many. But if I had a say, he probably wouldn't be killed by a teary-eyed spider baby.
13. The book you were most excited to read.
The original Gunslinger. So far, it's still waiting for its own six books. Its a different story altogether, and more ambitious.
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't.
Speedy.
15. Favourite artist from the series.
Michael Whelan.
16. All time favourite moment from the series.
The palaver at the Golgotha, circa '84.
17. Saddest moment.
Roland remembering Cuthbert's death in Jericho Hill.
18. If you could pick (up to) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose?
Old ka-tet plus new ka-tet. That would be the ka-tet of all ka-tets.
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there?
Yes, because he gets to blow the horn now, not rely on the roses (universes) to blow theirs for him. It's a rite of passage, a symbol of his bloodline. As for what I hope he would find? A door to a life, just one last, peaceful, ordinary life from rebirth to death, with versions of his friends in it. One life without his (singular) burden, and then the clearing.

1. Favourite protagonist of the series and why.
Roland, I know that's not very original :P but meh it's the truth. He never gives up, he goes to the end of the earth to achieve his goals, and he's just an all around bad ass character. I also love his back story.
2. Favourite antagonist and why.
Flagg, he's been around for so long and although he didn't play an overly big role in the majority of the DT book, I still found him incredibly interesting and cool. Every time he did make an appearance, he stole the scene.
3. Favourite original ka-tet member.
Cuthbert for the win here! He was basically Eddy Dean though to be fair.
4. Favourite creature/beast/hybrid.
Bumbler. Nuff said
5. Favourite place, from all worlds/levels of the Tower.
Can ka no rey, the image of it is just so haunting and beautiful.
6. Most memorable quote.
"If we don't stand and be true we'll never get within 1000 miles of the tower. Do you doubt it?"
7. Best fight scene.
Attack on Blue Heaven.
8. Favourite romance.
Roland and Susan
9. Background character that you felt deserved a bigger storyline.
Flaherty, the hume who chased Jake beneath the Dixie pig. He seemed interesting and somewhat psychopathic - would have liked to hear a little more from him.
10. Which Beam Guardian were you most drawn too?
Bear
11. Favourite crossover (from other King stories) character, place or event.
Pere Callahan!!
12. If you were dissatisfied with Flagg's demise, how would you have liked him to go out?
He showed have faced Roland again and come up short, I'm not sure I would really like to see Roland killing him outright either though, but it would be a lot more preferable than being killed by Mordred!!!
13. The book you were most excited to read.
Book 7 - I did not know it would break my heart at the time
14. A character you thought or hoped would be in the series, but wasn't.
I hoped that one or more of the characters from IT might make an appearance.
15. Favourite artist from the series.
Michael Whelan
16. All time favourite moment from the series.
Probably when they attack Blue Heaven, that was an amazing moment.
17. Saddest moment.
The death of Jake.....but really there's a lot to choose from here, its difficult to pick one. This moment stuck out to me the most because of the sorrow of Roland and Oy I think
18. If you could pick (upto) any 4 characters to be in your ka-tet, who would you choose?
Roland, Eddy, Cuthbert, and probably Patrick Danville. His magic could come in quite handy traversing worlds.
19. Do you believe Roland will ever reach the top of the Tower, if so, what would you like him to find there?
No, I don't think he's meant to reach the top of the tower. The point of the tower is to renounce it - I believe he is meant to free the breakers, and save King - after that he should go with Susannah through the unfound door and live the rest of his life in peace with his new family. The Tower is just a huge living testament to every mistake he ever made in his life and reaching it is his mistake. I think that's why the Tower always sends him back, because it's the greatest/only true gift that Gan can give him. A chance to do things right this time.

4. I think that swearing in here is always okay.
