A poem about Roland - End of series SPOILERS!
This is my first poem about the Dark Tower and my first try to translate a poem of mine from Greek to English. So it might have spelling/grammar mistakes, which I apologise for.
It might also have some SPOILERS of the end of the series, so be carefull.
Your Ghost
You are my only friend
But when I turn to see you, you look the other way.
You protect me; you don’t let them harm me.
You kill for me
And you hate me
You’re the only one always beside me.
I know though, you don’t care.
How could you?
How could I blame you?
I’m ice but I’ll never melt
When I left the big city
that city that had been destroyed
I also left half of you behind
Dead at heart, I took the remainders with me.
Did the glass show me the truth?
Would we meet again?
Would we listen to the song, as one?
We had to do it, because the world was empty
We’d do it, if we could find others to walk with us.
Others who we’d love and kill in our course.
We’d hear them talk, think, touch
We’d feel their hopes
We’d both feel again, as they would.
Do you remember how much I made you cry, friend?
I think I didn’t mean to, but there’s a curse I curry
A black and crimson curse, like dried blood
And when she kissed me, she felt it in my breath
She… the blackbird that stayed in the end
Sorrowful, hungry, weary…
She had lost the biggest cause.
And she left me, just like the boy did.
That boy who resurrected my lifeless heart
That boy who made you smile, friend
Even though you still hated me.
That one I left to fall and then I drew him back.
And gave him to you, to hold him in your hands
So as to create soul out of you again.
You saw it yourself, the glass spoke true
Only she didn’t mean good for the others
Or did she?
And if they meet somewhere else, will you smile?
Will you accept it if you learn that they hugged again?
Will you hug me too, maybe?
I know the answer
I already hear you answering.
I touch you.
The answer is “no”.
Because as we were climbing the ladder
you saw with your eyes what I’ve done to you
You saw that I killed you, as you were protecting me
And the dead can’t feel
And If I was driven to despair, you knew it from the start.
Your ghost will always partner me
I’ve entrapped it.
I took your life.
I’d like to say that I didn’t mean to…
But that would be a lie

Το φάντασμά σου
Είσαι ο μόνος φίλος μου
Αποστρέφεις το βλέμμα όμως, όταν γυρίζω να σε δω
Με προστατεύεις δεν αφήνεις να μου κάνουν κακό
σκοτώνεις για μένα
Αλλά με μισείς
Είσαι ο μόνος που δίπλα μου είναι συνεχώς
Το ξέρω, στο βάθος αδιαφορείς
Πώς αλλιώς;
Πώς θα μπορούσα να σε κατηγορήσω;
Πάγος είμαι που δε λιώνει
Φεύγοντας απ’ τη μεγάλη πόλη
Την πόλη που είχε καταστραφεί
Άφησα πίσω τον μισό από σένα
Νεκρός στην καρδιά, πήρα τον υπόλοιπο μαζί
Είχα δει στη σφαίρα την αλήθεια;
Θα συναντιόμασταν κάποτε ξανά;
Θα ακούγαμε οι δυο μας το τραγούδι σαν ένας;
Έπρεπε να το κάνουμε γιατί ο κόσμος είχε αδειάσει
Θα το κάναμε αν βρίσκαμε κι άλλους να μας συνοδεύσουν
Άλλους που θα αγαπούσαμε και θα σκοτώναμε στο διάβα μας
Θα τους ακούγαμε να μιλούν, να σκέφτονται, να αγγίζουν
Θα νιώθαμε ότι ελπίζουν
Θα νιώθαμε κι οι δυο ξανά, όπως κι αυτοί
Φίλε μου θυμάσαι πόσο σ’ έκανα να κλάψεις;
Δεν το ήθελα νομίζω, αλλά κατάρα κουβαλώ
Κατάρα μαύρη και κόκκινη σαν ξεραμένο αίμα
Κι όταν αυτή με φίλησε το ‘νιωσε στην ανάσα μου
Αυτή… το μαυροπούλι που έμεινε στο τέλος
Θλιμμένη, πεινασμένη, κατάκοπη
Έχοντας ήδη χάσει το μεγαλύτερο σκοπό
Με άφησε κι αυτή όπως και το αγόρι με είχε αφήσει
Αυτό που ανάστησε την ψόφια μου καρδιά
Αυτό που σ’ έκανε φίλε να μου χαμογελάσεις
Κι ας με μισούσες ακόμη
Αυτό που άφησα να πέσει και σήκωσα ξανά
Και στο ‘δωσα για να το κλείσεις μες στα χέρια σου
Για να γεννήσει ψυχή ξανά από σένα
Το είδες, η σφαίρα είπε την αλήθεια
Για τους άλλους μόνο δεν είχε σκοπό καλό
Ή είχε;
Κι αν αλλού αυτοί βρεθούν θα χαμογελάσεις;
Θα το δεχτείς αν μάθεις ότι αγκαλιάστηκαν ξανά;
Θα με αγκαλιάσεις ίσως κι εμένα;
Ξέρω τι θα απαντήσεις.
Σε ακούω ήδη να απαντάς.
Σε αγγίζω.
Όχι, απαντάς
Γιατί ανεβαίνοντας τις σκάλες είδες με τα μάτια σου τι σου έχω κάνει
Είδες ότι σε σκότωσα κι ας με προστάτευες
Και οι νεκροί δεν νιώθουν.
Αν απελπισία μ’ έπιασε εσύ το ήξερες απ’ την αρχή.
Το φάντασμά σου πάντα θα με συντροφεύει
Γιατί το έχω παγιδέψει
Σου αφαίρεσα τη ζωή
Θα ήθελα να πω πως έγινε άθελά μου
Αλλά θα ήταν ψέμα.
