HEY! Guess what! I have one of these (two actually). Erin and I went to the signing of A Dance With Dragons in Kentucky last August. I've even got the DJ (for one of them any way) and the admission ticket from the event plus some pics of me with the guy himself.

Cool. I've got 2 of those also (of which one is available).
Becca, is the Game of Thrones ARC the unpublished state for the true 1st edition, or is it for another version? It looks cool (I have a soft spot for proofs and ARCs).
As far as I know it is. It's an uncorrected proof for the 1st 1996 US hardcover edition. The artwork was completely changed obviously. I've seen quite a few missing the dust jacket. The only other I know of is the UK proof that I think has a red cover. I'm not sure they did proofs for reissued states - at least I haven't seen any.
Here is a link that lists all the editions w/ pics through Feast. The prices are quite a bit out of date though as the blog was written in 2006.

I have threee arcs from Bantom and one from voyager. Plus a slew of US first editions, Only one set of UK first editions. Those suckers are hard to find!

So that's where they all went.
Wow.
Very impressive, you guys!
I've read the first two books in the Ice and Fire series, and I am loving it! The problem is that now I want signed first editions.
They keep going up in price! Im thinking as long as HBO keeps running with it, that will continue. You can still get Feast of crows and Dance with dragons pretty cheap but the rest are getting pricey.
I keep meaning to give this series a try.
This story is fantastic. The amount of characters is staggering and they are developed so well. I would put this on par with my favorite epic fantasy adventure, Lord of the rings. very captivating!
I think I'll pick up a cheap paperback payday and check it out. I'm really not big on like hardcore fantasy though which is sorta what I'm understanding it to be. Tolkien is about the only real fantasy I like. I'll give it a try though. I have heard LOTS of good things about it.
Hey Brice, I'm with you. I just started reading the series the past couple months for the first time because of listening to everyone saying how good it is over the past few years. It's worth checking out.
I will pick it up Thursday. I figure about $5 for a paperback isn't too much. If it's not my thing; I can just pass it on to someone else. If I love it I can just talk to our friend above about selling one of those first editions. It's not like he'd notice having one less.
:) LOL.
Brice, I'm doing the same right now, I'm giving the books a try and although I only finished like 60 pages of the first book so far, I really, really enjoy it. I don't read too much fantasy either but this has a very different feel to it than I expected.
I'm hoping I feel the same. I need something great to pull me out of my reading slump. Last year I read something like 96 or 97 books. This year I think I'm on my second. :(
ill clean it now
seriously, I cant imagine your being dissapointed. Give the series a try. Dont give up at the end of Game of thrones it just keeps getting better. That would be like judging Dartower by just gunslinger. This is not to imply GOT is not good, because it is great! just hang on for the full ride. You will look back after finishing book five and i think you will agree you had just as much fun as your first time reading LOTR. I know i did, and i was a hard critic, as LOTR has been a favorite of mine since i was 12yrs old. Doit, you will be glad you did. :)
I DID judge DT by The Gunslinger. Luckily I adored that book from the start. Same with Tolkien. I wouldn't have tried LOTR if I hadn't loved The Hobbit. I can't read a book if I don't like it, but I will seriously try it. Just being truthful, but if the story doesn't have a hold on me by the second book there is little chance of me reading beyond that.
I'm still on the fence about the series. I saw a couple of episodes and didn't really think much of it.
I have some books I'll post pictures of later.
You can not judge a book by a television series. Seriously they are not even close. There are major characters not even included in the tv show. George r r martin did not write the screen play and they are 2 completely different animals.
they are not in the same book, perhaps not even in the same library:)
:( ...and I had planned to judge the books based on the commercials for the TV series.
You must read the books. Definitely don't judge the series on the show, although I do love it too.
Brice, I judged the series on the first book, A GAME OF THRONES. I loved it and couldn't wait to read the second book, so I went straight into it. Now I'm forcing myself to space these out and read a couple other things on my list in between, but I can't wait to dive into the third book.
