Unfound... the meaning and associations? ***Spoilers

heya all,

My first post and topic. :excited:

Doing some research on symbols found in the DT series, and I keep seeing reference to "unfound".

I recall it is on a door, but not sure which door, in what book, and what its meaning is.

any leads?

Hey laz--great to meet you and welcome to the site.

Unfound is the door that is located in Doorway Cave in the Fifth book.

don't read if you haven't finished the series.

Spoiler:

Pere Callahan is the first to travel through it, but Roland and his tet eventually use it to go to different versions of New York and the America side. I also think that it is written on the door at the top of the Tower, but I think it changes to 'Found'.

It is also on the box that holds black thirteen.

I'm sure I'm just being dim, but any thoughts on what they mean? beyond the obvious that is....

I think it means that there is no set path for the things that it is on. Like the doors, they can go to anywhere. And Black 13 has limitless possibilities. Also, the door that Patrick makes could go anywhere that he chooses.

following that train of thought, then the Found symbol on the final door in the tower yields the idea that Roland has come to a place that is inescapable, that it is a foregone conclusion: he must retake his journey.

I would agree with that. On his final trip through, (redemption), the dopor would read unfound it think

so... then "unfound" could be meaning ... chaos....

whereas "found" would be another way of calling out "ka"

thoughts?

by calling "found" = ka, i mean something destined.... set in stone

I would say yes to the ka=destined.

Let me see if I understand this. Chaos meaning random, correct?

Unfound = chaos? I don't think so.

yes, chaos in the strictest sense of the word.... random etc etc

Unfound = endless possibilities (to me)

Right, which is a looser term for random

not necessarily. Infinity does not have to be chaotic.

Yeah, totally agree.

Perhaps I was thinking too literally, but I assumed that "unfound" basically referred to "unknown", or "without definition" - ie. things that are marked "unfound" could be many things, to many people, and different things to all.

I agree with you. If can mean different things for different people.
