thedarktower.com has been sold -- the forum is moving to a new URL

Hmm. I only just found out about this, and it's this very Monday! I don't frequent this part of the board that often. (Proof that ka does exist, all you unbelievers! EDIT- I didn't notice the red scrolling message at the top, just to clarify the, erm, ka-ness. ;) )

I'm not too fussed concerning the change in domain name, although I'm not too keen on the new name as it seems a bit too broad. Yes, I know this site is about more than just The Dark Tower, but that does seem to be it's main bias. (Or maybe it just seems that way to me as those are the parts of the site I tend to access the most. Heh.) I guess I would have preferred a name more Tower related, if one were available.

On the other hand, we could get an influx of new members as a result as people are probably more likely to google 'Stephen King' than 'The Dark Tower'. And the Dark Tower books are very much the linchpin of his other works so it's not inappropriate.

So is anything going to change besides the web address or are we just good to go, and stay the same?

That should be the only change.

We won't have to re-register or anything? Will we keep our post counts? Will I still have all my parodies from the parody thread or should I back them up?

Theoretically, the whole site will move intact. You will not need a new sign in, and I'm assuming post count will stick (although we don't really care about post count around here).

If you're really worried, you may want to save your parodies to your computer, just in case. I seriously doubt it will be a problem, though. :D

I do have Towerpedia backed up, but only because in the beginning Matt and I screwed around with it so much there was a real chance of a Big Fiery Ball Visible From Space. :lol:

Just making sure... :) I'll back up my parodies, but the rest, well the rest is pretty replaceable (log in name can be registered, post count not important), but just wondering how it will change with the move.

I know you have all sacrificed a lot to make this happen, and don't think that I don't appreciate it, but I'll be following Daggers. Just wanted to express how grateful I am for all of the time and effort you put into creating and sustaining this website.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm definitely glad that the creators and contributors to TDT.com kept this community alive. You definitely have built something special.

and... i think king would have done better to buy the site...et al. and then leave all the forums here... just add his new DT pages and change the entry home page to what he wanted...leaving a link to these forum pages.

he'd have been gauranteed thousands of rabid fans (us), hundreds of thousands of hits, and an already in place audience to peddle his wares too.

First post updated with the new URL. Members were either ambivalent to the "fans" name-or absolutely hated it.
We are going to use www.kingsdarktower.com
Right now it redirects, but we own both domain names.
Actually we also own several cool URL's with the .mobi extension. I am investigating how to take advantage of them to bring more guests-and then members here.

I think Stephen King understands his fans know where to find him already. It would be very hard for Marsha to moderate two official forums.

I totally understand the need for strict rules on SK's official sites so that would be a lot of work.

I registered on sk's forum once, but people were pretty rude and elitist, I just didn't like it.

People were nice to me there and occasionally I visit, but the whole active moderation thing feels too inorganic and stifled for me. It lacks flow. I completely understand their reasons/reasonings for it I just entirely disagree. *shrug* It's their's though, so...

I guess it's nice that they provide a forum at all though, but I do more reading than posting because of that factor.

And there is much discussion about this very thing in the SKMB thread we have going :lol:

I believe we all understand it has to be that way and I think Marsha is probably the best forum moderator I have ever seen for real.

I declare, this is going so much better than I thought when I first read the news., :clap:

I post on the SKMB every so often, but the delay between inputting a post and having it actually posted drives me crazy!
