It's a standoff. After some behind the scenes apologizing and jerking, they'll put out some PC bullshit about how it was all a misunderstanding and they'll get back to making boat loads of money together. I don't think your argument is without merit, but looking through the list for the past 20 years.. honestly save for maybe 1 or 2 years I can't say I disagree with any of the winners. Pixar films are popular because they're really good films. Don't lose sight of that in your extreme anti-Disneyism :)
It's not that they aren't good films, but most of the films aren't near as good. Generally the only contenders in terms of quality are foreign films few academy members probably saw...so it's kind of a moot category. Films like Anomalisa and Loving Vincent don't even stand a chance blockbuster films. The whole category is just sapped of any prestige or competition for me. It would be better if it were at least unpredictable. But there is rarely more than two contenders, and commonly there isn't a second contender.
This July is my ten-year Netflixversary. :o
