A behind the scenes guide listing OTHER members on this site who contacted the seller trying to STEAL matts deal. And lying about him to the seller... A deal that the seller accepted.
A free brochure to the Grisham event in floridA. With a picture of me standing next to Matt. Taken by slow mutant. Who knows I am stupid and probably was trying to steal my signed copy of Silver Bullett
More deals to follow....
Two SIDES to every story. Slow mutant is not telling the WHOLE story. When it comes to high end collectibles of king. There are people out there who are doing bad things to get what they want including contacting the seller trying to cancel other peoples good deals not sure if slope mutant was one of those trying to do it just keep an open mind

Glenn sorry but I know of stunts Matt pulled brother. I don't trust the guy at all. I took care of him once when he needed help and when I needed a favor in return (I made zero dollars to help him out on a transaction)he looked to make a bunch of money off me. He has taken many people for large profits and has gained the books a little less than fairly. Sorry but I have no respect for that shit... Your a great guy and not sure what happened with Slow Mutant but about Matt... I agree.
I just don't like all the piling on I don't like it on the site I don't like it in life yesterday should not of happened to you in the public forum I don't think it should happen to anyone including Matt without everyone knowing the entire story. My original post that slow mutant doesn't approve of and now I know he is the moderator I will clear all my post with him first was a way to entice Matt back to the site to show his acquisition which he is quite excited about
Doesn't mean he won't sell it to buy something from Salems lot

My wife has a pretty good BS meter and is finding these posts Rediculous. She can't believe we are all grown men. She met some of you except for slow mutant and Find our antics quite amusing.
Back to my original stupid and pointless post as pointed out by slow mutant...
Matt please share a picture and your story on your amazing find a limited rare one-of-a-kind manuscript first that I knew of as a stupid Stephen King Collector I know I learned not a manuscript....

:wtf:
Come on, guys...relax a little bit. I don't get what's wrong if Matt ends up not being a collector but a reseller. I sold him several books (most of my proofs) and I never had an issue with him. He didn't point a gun to me or made me a threat. And whatever happened to those proofs..well, not my business.
As for Glenn, I think he just posted a message out of the excitement of the auction. I don't think he made anything to defend Matt. Of course, some people had issues with Matt before and it's understandable they're not happy with him, but Glenn (IMHO) didn't do anything wrong!
I'm starting the Glenn Fan Club now. Membership is $10. :)
Since everyone is chiming in....
People can come across massively negatively when "ranting" in forums. I do think it was a little accusatory towards Glen, so a bit of a knock for that to Mr. Mutant, but let's not have the forums get sucked into drama over posts where feelings are obviously hurt.
Still confused on exactly what happened. Did Lot Guy cockblock the 1st buyer's deal or did Lot Guy just play super hardball to enforce the deal of $3k that Lot Guy and Seller agreed to but that was being yanked b/c cockblocked by another wannabe buyer (probably from this forum) trying to swoop up item around Lot Guy?
There wasn't enough time to talk to EBay legal in my opinion so seemed to be a bit of "salesmanship" from the buyer (Lot Guy) to get seller to act. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think there is precedent for an item being listed incorrectly as a reason to not honor an Ebay auction...although I have not dealt with it when an immediate purchase is made in a BIN situation. The value of the item and the speed of the BIN "click" would certainly play a factor and this situation screams of being the posterchild for WHY they would have a policy enabling a seller to cancel due to a listing error. If they ever are going to allow a cancellation AFTER a buyer clicks BIN then this would be it (high price, unique item, speed of BIN after listing, etc...)
I have no issues with someone buying for cheap/selling for big profit and that is true even if they are utilizing this site to do it. Some of you have purchased items for VERY cheap "back in the day" and sell them now for big profit and that is fine, so shortening the amount of time between the "buy" and the "sell" shouldn't change anything and if the "buy" is from someone here and the "sell" is to someone here then even that isn't a foul in my mind.
If someone is using questionable tactics, misleading members or doing anything shady in the acquisition or the subsequent sale of said item, then THAT is the issue and should be stopped by banning or whatever.
That being said, I do NOT see that in the facts as described so far here or I guess I'm missing something? I guess if someone else here bought it (1st sale) and then Lot Guy somehow came in after and threatened legal action to unwind the 1st sale and get the sale himself then that would be questionable, but really only if Lot Guy KNEW the sale was made to a member here. This wasn't the case here though b/c Lot Guy wouldn't know who buyer was and also it seems Lot Guy was the 1st buyer anyway?
Only "questionable" thing I see is that Lot Guy played mega hardball and alluded to legal action (when most likely EBay legal dept was never involved at all). I've threatened legal action on things in the past when I wasn't sure if it would go there or not, but it got the deal done and the other party and myself were happy in the end so no harm no foul as I believe I was right and so did they originally but better for all to avoid legal, so I pushed that button when needed.
There are always going to be people that missed out in the collecting world as that is the whole point of collecting and what makes the items valuable in the 1st place. I am bummed that I didn't see it and would have paid $3k for sure if I saw it, but don't know if I would have paid $6k anyway. Looking back now after I have had time to assimilate everything on the potential value of the item, I tell myself I would have though...LOL!...going to be an epic "flip" I have a feeling if he sells it. The value of such rare items is unknown though and speculation so cost to buy/price to sell should have zero to do with any analysis of what happened. Lot Guy arguable took a risk paying so much and betting he could resell for more if that is his goal.
Would the situation look the same if the price to buy was $5 only and perceived sale price was $7 only?
Lot Guy did take a risk paying so much though for an unknown value. (I feel the same way about the one of a kind "dies" I recently acquired for the 1st/1st King books. No idea what these copper 'dies' are truly worth being one of a kind. I didn't let on to seller that I felt they were worth massively more than they wanted. I didn't let on that they were marketing to the wrong people the wrong way. I just took the deal as soon as I could even though I felt the items were worth 100x what I paid. Is that wrong?)
I am so confused still though on critical facts on this "Carriegate" situation. lol!

If I understand it correctly, Lot Guy (Matt Fisher) found the rare and valuable proof (how and where I do not know), and is accused of persuading an unwitting "employee" (of what business, once again I do not know) to sell the item at what would be considered to be a very low price, using a quickly posted ebay BIN auction.
The seller (not sure who that was, boss, employee, ??) realized the "mistake" and decided to cancel the deal (you can do that as a seller, all you have to do is refund the money-as a seller you expose yourself to the possibility of negative feedback, and in what would be considered a rare case-have ebay ban you as a seller).
Lot Guy is accused of threatening legal action against the seller for not honoring the $3K BIN auction.
Lot Guy is accused of "negotiating" with the seller to buy the item for $6K; once again using the ebay BIN auction.
Some "employee" is purported lost have their job over the initial $3k mistake.
Numerous King collectors are reported to have been trying to negotiate a side deal for the proof.
Correct me if I am mistaken.
I guess that I still don't see much wrong if those are the facts. (Other than playing hardball threatening legal action is kind of hardcore, but happens all day every day all over the world a million other areas than collecting...shrug).
Employee who listed something like this without checking should be fired. (Owner enabling employee to have the power to do this when this kind of rare item is involved should also look in the mirror and fix their own policies)
Not sure how the initial sale was set up, but if Matt was able to coax someone into selling something then that is what MANY people do here all the time. I get private messages asking if I'm willing to sell my items and the offers are lower than I want most of the time so are these potential buyers bad for reaching out and offering me a low offer on an item? Do they only become "bad" if I end up selling and then find out it was too low of a sale price? Price of item, people involved, etc.. should have no bearing on situation in my mind.
Was someone tricked/lied to in order to make the sale happen in the 1st place is what I think is the issue. (Threatening potential legal action is a legal right, so I don't have issues with someone threatening to enforce an agreed to deal. Seller has right to still say no if they felt they were right in cancelling sale. Just b/c they caved and sold (for double agreed to price don't forget!) shouldn't change things and make it bad suddenly.)
P.s. Come on, everyone! Let's hear your "offers" you made on the side? I honestly think that would be cool to know and I won't be mad or anything if you did try and get it. Gotta a swing or you'll never hit a homerun. haha! I didn't see it, so offered $0. Already stated, I don't think I would have offered more than the $3k anyway, so probably would have offered $0 even if I saw that I could bid more than $3k to maybe get it. I think I MIGHT have gone $3k if saw the BIN for that though.
EDIT: WAIT! I think I figured it out!! I just bought another 11 years of Heavy Metal magazine to upgrade some of my copies. I had seller group the listings so I could BIN last night at a substantial discount. I was nervous that someone else might swoop in and BIN before me during the small window between new listing and me clicking BIN. I BET THAT IS IT!! Agreed to a price, BIN set up, Lot Guy ready to buy, but someone swooped in and hit BIN before Lot Guy got to it. Lot Guy reaches out and says BS, I will sue unless you honor the $3k, but I'll go $6k to make everyone happy. Seller agrees and cancels the quick trigger first BIN person (maybe someone from this forum was 1st buyer) and sells to Lot Guy for twice so everyone wins...except 1st unlucky buyer.) I am pretty good at sleuthing.... ;)
Edit part 2: FYI, verbal contracts of this amount are NOT enforceable in court. Seller had no risk if it was a verbal promise to sell for $3k due to value of item as agreed to buy seller/buyer. Unknown TRUE value, but agreed to value was such that verbal contract would not exist without something in writing.

Story of my life....a day late and a dollar short.
Oh well...maybe the Treasurer position is still available.
NO second person involved. Matt made offer, then counteroffered after others intervened trying to screw his deal. Thanks to them, the seller agreed to counter offer. I need names and contacts so they can help me if I ever fall into a similar situation.
It is not my story to tell, but I think we all figured out the situation. Matt made an offer. The offer was accepted. Other members called tried to SCREW his deal. I think someone from this site offered $20,000 and would fly from overseas to pick it up. Matt then counteroffered $6000 Thanks to unscrupulous or jealous collectors, the seller took a liking to Matt. Knowing they could still cancel, decided he should get the Galley/arc/proof (sorry slow mutant I still don't know what it is). Matt is a collector. Not a completest. He will buy and sell to get what he wants. No one was bullied, according to my source the seller LIKED Matt and did not like the aggressive nature of the other buyers who attempted to get the items.
This is the story I am being told. I stated above there are TWO sides to a story. I am willing to hear the other side, but calling me Stupid (about King collecting - a fair assessment in my opinion) and never wanting to meet me because????? (my wife feels the same way some time).
Matt is excited about his purchase. I am excited for him. I would be happy for anyone who got a great deal. I would like to ascertain some kind of value (which started this whole attack)
All I wanted was pictures of the PROOF/Galley/ARC or whatever it is to be part of the permanent record on this site.

Wait...is it shipped yet? I offer $7k for it. :cool_002:
