The Royal Tenenbaums should be arriving for me tomorrow :)
The Grand Budapest Hotel is by far my favorite film of his. I din't really like The Royal Tenenbaums.
What about Fantastic Mr. Fox? That's my other favorite.
Have you seen Rushmore Mike? It's a lot more normal than his following films but still pretty great.
There are definitely some signs of his style changes, like the opening montage for Schwartzmann's character. It kind of bridges Bottle Rocket with his stranger films to follow. I've only see it and Life Aquatic once so I need to rewatch them.
Just in case you guys wanted to give it a chance, The Guest is now at Redbox.

After highlighting 40 films from 2014 we loved, it’s time to enter the unknown. While a multitude of 2015 previews simply regurgitate a list of dated releases, we’ve set out to focus on 100 films we’re genuinely looking forward to, regardless of their marketing budgets. While some might not have a release date, let alone any confirmed festival premiere, most have wrapped production and will likely debut at some point in 2015, so make sure to check back for updates over the next twelve months and beyond.
It should be noted that there are a number of films we’re greatly looking forward to but whose completion we weren’t confident about, including the next features from Andrea Arnold, Abbas Kiarostami, Jia Zhangke, Michael Haneke, Nicolas Winding Refn, Andrew Dominik, James Gray, Todd Solondz, and Lucrecia Martel. Lastly, word has it that Orson Welles‘ unseen final film The Other Side of the Wind might finally debut this year, and in that case it should certainly be at the top of this list — but, unfortunately, we don’t have enough details yet. Regardless, be sure to keep the below one-hundred films on your radar (with release dates, where applicable)
Great list. That's the kind of list I was looking for when I was making my list.
It's so hard to track down a lot of those kinds of films. It should be an exciting year for film on the large and small scale.
Movies In 2015 Shannon Is Excited About:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Jurassic World

Ant-Man
Spectre (James Bond)
The Hateful Eight (Quentin Tarantino)
Tomorrowland
Inside Out (Pixar)
The Good Dinosaur (Pixar)
Fast And Furious 7

Kingsman: The Secret Service
Money Monster (George Clooney, Julia Roberts)

Term Life (Vince Vaughn is on the run from lots of assassins and tries to stay alive long enough for his life insurance to kick in)
In The Heart Of The Sea
The Martian (Ridley Scott, guy stranded on Mars)
Green Room (Patrick Stewart, sounds like a Judgment Night type of movie)
La La Land (director of Whiplash)
The Regression (father accused of a crime he doesn't have any memory of)
The Light Between Oceans (Michael Fassbender, sounds depressing, lol)
Sicario (director of Prisoners)

Mojave (Garrett Hedlund)
Demolition (Jake Gyllenhaal)
Everest (Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke)
Southpaw (Antoine Fuqua, Jake Gyllenhaal --man, I guess the guy who wrote the first list I got my movies from didn't like Jake Gyllenhaal, lol, I didn't even know these movies existed)
Z For Zachariah (Chris Pine, Chiwetel Ejiofor, post-apocalyptic love triangle)
Room (based on the book)
The Revenant (director of Birdman, Leonardo DiCaprio)
Macbeth (Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard)
The Sea Of Trees (Gus Van Sant, Matthew McConaughey)
Mortdecai, Strange Magic and The Boy Next Door are 3 of the worst reviewed films of the year so far, yet they all get a wide release.
Black Sea starring Jude Law, which as received strong reviews, gets a limited release. This is what's wrong with Hollywood and I don't think it will ever change.
I really wanted to see Black Sea, but I just missed out on it. It is a shame to hear it get such a limited release overseas, though.
The movie might end up sucking, but I'm loving the marketing for Jurassic World. This site is amazing. It actually feels like a real amusement park. There is so much detail. It's not finished yet, but there are more than enough places to poke around.

I'm going to see Jurassic World no matter what. I don't care if it gets -5% on Rotten Tomatoes right out the gate.
D.G.A.F
Hello everyone. I signed up for this site back in 2013 and for some reason simply never could get back on. After many chances and starting a new profile (which gave me no permissions whatsoever for over a week) I figured out my old account and updated it. I would like to say that being single, no kids, I definitely watch too many movies and TV shows. However, to me, it is like a learning curve for writing for me, so maybe one day it will pan out. Anyway, I should have been a movie critic since I watch movies much different then other people. A close older friend of mine is an art appreciation teacher who is much harsher then me when watching movies. Therefore, I am not easily amused, but I will watch ANYTHING. So this movie thread is straight up my alley.
I would like to say I usually go by genres. As for television, my top 5 best shows of all time are:
Deadwood
Breaking Bad
Hannibal TV show
Sons of Anarchy (except the ending)
Big Bang Theory
I could write a novel of the new show Hannibal. The new characters are fantastic and better then any of the originals and yes, even Hopkins as Hannibal. The show is dark, the music is fantastic, the imagery is disturbing and amazing, the writing is beyond my imagination. The cinematography is top notch. Even the conversations with nothing going on are mesmerizing. The creator has done an above amazing job with the show. From what articles have stated, he does not have the full rights of all the books, so it does jump around a bit but the story is for the most part dead on.
"Penny Dreadful" is another horror show on cable that was written and done very well. I don't know what it is about Eva Green. Sometimes she is not very attractive and sometimes I want to marry her. Besides that, the show is quite impressive.
Nice to you meet you! Stick around I think you will have a lot of fun. We have some truly great people here, some of whom I've known for 10 years. We are really passionate about movies and have some great discussions. We do a lot of movie tournaments, the next one is our Best Comedy of All Time tournament that will be starting shortly after the Oscars.
Speaking of the Oscars, we do an Oscar contest. It's just for fun and all you have to do is pick who you think is going to win in each category before the show starts. I'd love to have you participate because Heather has won every year and we need as many people to try and take her down as possible.
We also have a few people here (including myself) that write movie reviews. It's just for fun, but I'm sure you will find them interesting and well-written. Looking forward to discussing film with you in the future.
I don't know, I'm pretty brutal when it comes to movies. I'm off the wall with taste to. I'm more of a horror and fantasy guy, but I did love "the Notebook," I'm fine with my sexuality and I thought "Broke Back Mountain" was pretty good too. But I'm down for talking about Oscars and movies and things like that. I will throw out "Honeymoon" the new horror movie coming out or is out, I'm not sure. I saw it months ago. The two main actors you will notice who they are. The guy is from Penny Dreadful and the woman is the cute read-head dating Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. The movie is slow, but an interesting one to follow. Watching the preview you know it is either a ghost, alien, or crazy person out there somewhere. I really enjoyed it, so maybe the horror people will too.
I'm pretty up to date with movies and certain shows and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to tell people how I am current with movie watching. I will just say that the young adults on xbox impress me and opened my eyes to a new world and turned me into a pro when it comes to watching the more recent movies :).
Easiest way to have a good movie track record with new movies is to look for movies featuring directors/writers/actors whatever you really like. I'm excited for Trainwreck merely because of Apatow/Schumer despite there being zero plot details released yet. Then again I care more about whose behind a movie than what the movie actually is. This of course isn't failsafe or else The Monuments Men wouldn't be a bad movie lol
I do have cable, which I watch maybe 2 dozen channels. That is such a financial waste. But, I watch live sports so that's what kills me. I'm not going to a bar for a grueling NHL season or the NFL. With bundling a descent internet speed with cable it helps. My internet wanted to charge me 50.00 a month just for high speed?! I looked into Tivo and then monthly fees and then Hulu Plus, Amazon Fire and Prime, an antenna, and monthly recording DVR fees and shockingly it was more money. I will say a nice website I like for monthly releases is dvdreleasedates.com. There aren't many movie rental places out there anymore, so this site helps show you what comes out every Tuesday. It's pretty good for TV shows and movies being released. I save money other ways to watch pretty much whatever I want when it is presented to me :).
I will add there is a site for new TV shows only for streaming. You need better then 6 MBS of speed though, otherwise it gets all fuzzy and the pixels jump around. It's fantastic for premium shows. I'm sure the government will shut it down soon enough. couchtuner.......there's one of my secrets. Your welcome!

The middle of a decade isn’t often a cause for reflection, but maybe it should be. We tend to break time down into whatever segments make sense, especially within art, fashion, and culture, where things move quickly and change significantly: The teen world of 1982’s Fast Times At Ridgemont High, for instance, is markedly different from the teen world of 1989’s Say Anything… Inspired by our friends at Pitchfork, The Dissolve polled its regular contributors and some friends of the site about the best films released since January 1, 2010. We compiled the results in an effort to help give shape to the decade in progress, as the cinematic landscape keeps evolving around us. When the math was done, we found the results surprising, with a No. 1 none of us predicted. (Though we probably should have.) Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up with Nos. 50 through 26; then head to part 2 for the top 25.
