Doctor Who: The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure
2013, we had not just Smith's regeneration story but also the much more long awaited one of McGann's. However, while Colin's Doctor technically did get a regeneration at the start of Time and the Rani, it was such a badly rushed job that not only was there no actual reason for why it happened (it was implied to be because of an accident when the Rani hijacked the Doctor's TARDIS, with the novelization claiming it to be 'tumultous buffeting'. 'Tumultuous buffeting'? What the fuck does that even mean?) but even worse, Baker (understandably) didn't even show up for the regeneration scene, with the considerably shorter McCoy in a wig taking his place! So a story taking place just before the infamous Time and the Rani by Big Finish is long overdue.
There have been takes on the Sixth Doctor's regeneration story in literature form, particularly the official 'Spiral Scratch', (which I haven't read,) and the completely unofficial but still fucking awesome story Time's Champion (which I read in 2 days). Interestingly, like The Last Adventure, this also featured 'one final encounter with the Valeyard'. But finally getting a take on it featuring Baker himself playing the role one last time (well, chronologically, although he'll still continue to play the role for many years yet) has made me so happy. I've long awaited Big Finish to do their own take on Colin's final story. Knowing it's going to be a 4 hour epic set across his entire Big Finish era brings tears to my eyes. :') I genuinely can't wait.
(In the meantime, I think I'll build myself up for it by watching/listening to Six's entire era on DVD and audio. :) )
