I'm trying to find a Viking W&G.

Anyone know why this one book is so expensive compared to the other Viking HCs? They were all basically the same size, single run, right?

All the viking 1-4 1st/1st seem to run about $30-$50. I'm not really sure why. I've never seen the print number but if it was low, that would make sense.

I'll let you know if I see one.

Print run was 40,00. W&G may be higher because the cover was the best of those and any first print IMHO.

Even with a low print run, at least one of the Viking reissues (but probably all of them) had several printings. Always check for a full number line. As for the price: I haven't followed the market value for these at all but I was under the impression that DTI was the most expensive of the bunch. Guess I was wrong. They're very beautiful books so I'm not surprised they retain their value.

(I got them all brand new from the bookstore and all except DTI are 1st printings so I'm looking for a 1st printing Viking GUNSLINGER I guess...)

Hi team.
Still looking for early printings or Book Club editions of Carrie, Night Shift, and 'Salem's Lot. Dont care that they aren't 1st/1sts, just want them to be at least near fine and the same 8 1/2 inch size as the oiginals.

Cheers

I always thought the early BCE's were slightly smaller than the 1st's. At one point I had BCE's of Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, Night Shift and The Stand. I'm sure someone has measured them exactly though.

I think you are correct. I know that the BCE of Night Shift will not fit into the Dolso case.

Well, I have to admit I can't say first hand that they are different sizes. I just know that Dick made a point of saying that the NS case he made would not fit the BCE. He's usually pretty spot on when it comes to these things. Having a tape measure for an index finger and all!!! LOL

Dolso
01-13-2012, 03:23 PM
From what I understand, the BCE's come in at least two different sizes. One is the same as the first but the other is at 9 3/8". There may be other sizes but those are the two that I'm familiar with. This is talking about "Night Shift" and "Shining" ~ I assume it holds true for "Carrie" and "Salem's Lot" too, but don't know for sure.

I have a "price-point" list I keep for S/L'ds I don't have (The Regulators, The Stand, The Green Mile, The Eyes of the Dragon, and some others). Typically based on eBay action, Heritage Auction Galleries, and the classifieds here . I've tracked sales for The Regulators and my "jump on it immediately" price is $600. That way I feel like I'm getting a good deal. The fact that I absolutely HATED this book makes me not want to spend any more than the bare market fire-sale minimum.

Does the Gremlins lunchbox come with the cooler/drink container? Also, I may be interested in that gall bladder however I would like to see a few photos before I make my decision. Thanks!

Good question. The whole deal would really hinge on the fact of the Thermos being present and intact or not. I, for one, am anxiously awaiting confirmation.

Good luck on a "mint" copy of "The Talisman". I have 3 copies and one is in NF shape. All three have DJ's in a broadart cover, but the boards on the book itself are a cheap black "cloth", and when I remove the DJ I notice minor scuffing to the boards. I would hesitate to sell the finest copy I have (which I would rate as Fine DJ, NF book) as "mint".

They are quite hard to find. For a time there were a few copies of the proof sold at Betts back when Stu was still the owner. I bought mine directly from one of the atendee of the party. No necklace or trivia, but does come with envelope stamped with 6 peace sign. I've only seen them on Ebay once or maybe twice in the last 7 years.

The poem was written by Neil Gaiman about the night before their wedding. Fifty unique folios contain two versions of the same broadsheet: a proof copy and the final edition that were printed in a limited edition of 250. The typefaces used are Granjon, Dyer, Willow and You Murderer. The embossing was done from polymer plates that were mounted type high and then squeezed through the press by hand. The paper is acid free 250 gm archival Rising Stonehenge. The wood engravings are incised on end grain maple and were made by George A.Walker who also designed and hand-printed the whole project on his Vandercook SP15 proof press in the winter of 2012.

Folio Edition: Bound and slip cased in black fiscagoma, includes two versions of the poem signed by both Neil Gaiman and George Walker and possibly by Amanda Palmer. (That's the plan, but no guarantees from Neil about her signing). Blind stamped front and back, heavily embossed. $375 (Please note: we have only been able to secure 10 copies of this edition.)

I'll sell you the DJ that is Fine, then go find the book. $275.

The trouble I encounter with finding book only is that if the original book is sold with or without a worn DJ, the book itself has flaws that would look out of place with a mint DJ. They are usually as battered as the DJ that comes with it. Rarely would you find a mint book with a worn DJ. But you can find a Fine book with a Fine DJ. Am I being anal?.

Yes, I saw the copy with the signed bookmark at Betts, but already have 2 of those bookmarks.

1st/1st Salem's Lot 2nd State in NF or better

Forgive my ignorance as I am a new collector, but I thought when it was stated 1st/1st it meant 1st edition 1st printing. Where does 2nd state come in? Im not sure i understand the difference between printing and state Although in this situation I do understand that you are referring to the dj price and Father Cody error. I am speaking more in general terms.

Randall Flagg
04-07-2012, 06:06 PM
As you said, 1st/1st refers to a First edition, First printing. Donald M. Grant did a second print run on The Gunslinger and a second on The Drawing of the Three. The "Second Edition" 1st printing Gunslinger is usually referred to as a 2nd/1st.

I'd say that we mostly use 'state' for variations that occur within a printing/print run. Most are dust jacket variations ('Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary, The Tommyknockers, Rose Madder, Under the Dome). We also use it to distinguish between various pre-publication forms a book goes through (i.e., manuscript, uncorrected proof, advance reader's copy). I hope this helps!

Not sure what books you are looking for, but feel free to ship them all to my house - I will box them up and ship them to you! Would that make it cheaper? Is it the shipping to Ontario that makes it expensive? Or all the different shippings? Hope this could help you out.

Hi, I didn't even see this until now. I have a few auctions saved in 'My eBay' but they're not high on the list at the moment. And yeah, some seller charge $10 to ship a paperback Media Mail. Some will only send Priority (which I understand more than an $10 charge for Media). Thanks, I'll PM you once these books move up on the list.

As I said, I wouldn't sell it for less than $1K, and honestly, with the work that went into it, I don't believe I would sell it for any price. The machining was so labor intensive. There was so much set up work (which BTW, wasn't done by me, I take no credit for that) that it was a labor of love.
That being said, there is the possibility that in the future we could sell the cases-and even include the À la carte option where a person submits there own art, and verbiage for the front and back side-including color choice for the case, and mono color choice for the "etching"-perhaps full color is an option, it just has to be a viable business decision.
Currently the master case maker for this is so busy they can't accept any work right now. It doesn't look like that is going to change in the near future.
I just am so proud of the work they did that I had to show it off a bit.

Coming to me in the mail. There are only 2 of the cases in existence. They look (in the picture) like they might be fabric, but they are custom formed for a block of aluminum-literally carved out. They are HEAVY, and the metal "feels" like gunmetal-I held one before the image was put on the side. Another cool feature is that the case is split along the top, back and bottom, and can be slid open to display the book. There is an inside (not where it would harm the book) rail.
When I receive it I will take additional pictures.

There is the possibility for 4 more cases. The limitation has to do with the actual amount of aluminum purchased to make these-it was one huge slab, and evidently there is some raw material left.

These are very nice may ask if one is black and the other brown or is it just the way the light is hitting it?
Jerome what would be the cost of one of these cool looking cases?

Actually one is black and one is green. The lighting doesn't convey the correct colors. When I receive the cases, I will take additional photos.
As to more cases, I am looking into a few more. The price has to work not only for the buyer, but for the manufacturer. I hope to have more info soon.
