Thought I would give this one more try.
Looking for one of THE STAND limitation pages that were Sold at Betts just a month or so a go. I know most likely someone on here purchased them. All i want is one of them, willing to pay a decent price for it. I think they were $25 each and a total of 3, if whoever has them bought all 3 I am willing to pay $75 for one ! Then you got yours for free !!

That's too bad. I put a pristine DJ on my Grant WIZARD & GLASS today and as a result my copy of THE WASTE LANDS looks even poorer in comparison than it already did.

The Pet Sematary DJ is very difficult to find (BTW there were 2 states) in VG or better condition, particularly when not mated to a book. If found, either dj in Fine condition will cost a bit. Expect to pay >$25.

The back of the dust jacket of the first state says that Tabitha's first novel came out in 1982, which was incorrect. The second state jacket (shown in the catalog) corrects the date to 1983. I have no idea on how many of each were done, but the dust jacket itself is VERY prone to showing wear. One in very good/excellent condition (as is the one in the catalog) goes for a premium. The first state seems a bit harder to find than the second.

Ok, I remember this now, sorry. I think this was discussed on The Collector's site. My DJ is the first state, as mint as when I bought it at the bookstore, nice and sharp and white, etc. Never showed any wear, which is good! That still means I need a 2nd state DJ. There are so many variations of King dust jackets to keep in mind. I must make a list!

Ari, the odds of a spare dj (in VG or better condition) for any of those is slim. It's almost as easy to buy the books themselves.

I have an extra that still has the wrapping on it from SKCollector. UK shipping is expensive, but the traycase is much lighter than the book so savings can be had.


I am looking for a 1/1 of The Green Mile hardcover. Every copy I can find is a BCE, and the best copy I can find on Abebooks is $33.00 and the cover doesn't look the best. If anyone has an extra available, please let me know.
$33 isn't bad. Cover price is $25 (that is what I paid). I have an extra but don't see myself selling it for a loss.

RAGE has SIGNET•451-W7645•$1.50 on the front cover
ROADWORK has SIGNET•451-E9668•$2.25 on the front cover

While I see the resemblance to the ISBNs you posted Jerome, I'm not sure how to 'convert' them into each other.

Correct about publisher code. The Running man has an actual bar code and ISBN on the rear cover, quite different than the Publisher code from the front.
The ISBN's I provided are from the spine. You might want to check the listing for The Long Walk, as I believe it is wrong.

I'm looking for a DJ for The Stand 1st. Mine is price clipped and I'm OK with it but I'm also thinking of resale value. There's a crap condition The Stand on eBay with the owners name on the book but the DJ is in nice condition. Is $50 a fair price? That's how much I'd offer.

You definitley want something to protect that paperback - its just worht too much to let it get damaged.

Back at the original SKEMERs conference in Bangor in 1997 we all met up at Betts (the original location in downtown Bangor) and I purchased an aftermarket case from Stu for $50. I believe he had them made - he wasn't just reselling. Funny, I paid $85 for the book from the Overlook COnnectino Press and $50 for the case!

Yep, that was me. I wasn't really planning on making a purchase and so hadn't done my homework on current market values of this book, but I did not own a copy of this S/L and the opening bid seemed reasonable. My max bid wasn't much higher so I expected to get outbid, but am pleased that I did not.

If anyone had bid $450 on this auction though, they would have beaten my high bid.

By the way, I took the advice of this forum in general: Before paying I contacted the seller to confirm the avoidance of the usual shipping pitfalls (Priority Mail, box vs. envelope, plentiful padding, insurance, delivery confirmation) and received a positive response. $404 all-in, I'm happy.

Now, really, no one has a traycase they want to unload? :D

Not to derail this thread, I have been doing this also to EVERY SINGLE transaction I won on Ebay. Most sellers have very kindly complied. Then there is this one seller this week who, despite my detailed requests on packaging, decided to throw my S/L Bradbury book in a padded envelope.

I was so mad, I filed a dispute on the guy. Now why would someone do that?. I can't figure it out.

Personally I think it best that if you are going to make the request at all, you might as well ask for confirmation prior to paying. They are motivated to respond in some fashion and then you have some agreement - as opposed to just having put a request out there.

That's what I did as soon as I won, the seller promptly agreed, and I promptly paid. Then I put a statement to that effect ("Seller has agreed to...") in the Paypal "note" box when I did make payment.

This particular seller probably would have done the right thing on their own, but based on the stories I've heard in this forum, it's better to have a clear mutual understanding up front.

I don't think Rick paid too much and Patrick just simply got a good deal.

The King market isn't set by a few sales alone. So many things go into an Ebay sell like:

Known King seller vs newbie
Feedback rating
Time of year (Christmas can be a good time to sale but it can also be a bad time)

David at Betts could probably tell you that his buying customers, well, most don't even look at Ebay. They know what they want and pay the higher price for it.

So for what it's worth Rick, I think you got one hell of deal. I paid $600 for my copy in traycase. Will I lower my market watch price in my collectors database because Patrick got a great deal lower than ours......NO.

Yeah, you're right of course...from 10 years of buying and selling, I know a good Ebay day on one day can be a bad day the next, and vice versa...though I'm not sure it's a "hell of a deal." But dramatically overpaid? Probably not.

We all know it's a weird market...if two committed buyers see the same listing at the same time, you get a bidding war...list it again the next week and nobody sees it and it's unsold, so who knows.

However all the copies I find online of these books appear overpriced for current conditions. I say that because they sit and relist, sit and relist. None of them seem to be priced to actually sell in the current market. Or maybe sometimes they are and I miss 'em, I have not been diligent in my eBay searches.

I'd be careful of the Library Binding. It may not have a slipcase, and it may have been reinforced to make it last longer at a library.

I think I've seen 3 The Green Mile gift editions in the last couple weeks but I've been saving my money for my personal holy grail and some S/Ls so I passed on those. One ended just today for $100 but seller didn't have a quote for international shipping. I stay away from listings that say 'shipping to be determined after auction' because that can be anything really.

I picked up a GM gift on eBay the other day for almost 1/2 of retail (near-mint), so they can be found fairly cheap! Stay away from it. Not that the sig is bad, but the "gifter" inscribed the book-not King. In my mind it devalues the book by 50% or more. Estimated value $99.

So i have becom somewhat interested in King signed limitation pages. I know there are always extras produced and signed and where these go who knows. Seems people end up with them and eventually (or not) sell them. I have managed to get one from Six Stories, and The Stand. I picked up the signed Insomnia print. I really like these and would love more. Does anyone have any others they are willing to sell or know of. If so please let me know !

Welcome to the site. That is a pretty optimistic request. Definitions of book conditions are very subjective, but it is very hard to find any King book-signed or not in better than "Fine" condition. When/if you do, it will not be inexpensive.

Currently I have the Dutch translations of the first three DT books. However, I would like to have the hardcover editions from Grant. I saw an interesting offer on Ebay, however the price starts at 110 dollars and the shipping costs are a whopping 90 dollars (this is all 7 books together) which will result in a final price of way over 200 dollars. Will I be able to get these books (in perfect condition) at a better price than that somewhere else?

Edit, I saw that only 3 of the 4 books are from Grant. The others are from Viking. That's a pity, I was about to buy them.

It depends. Some people choose for seven books from the same publisher (Grant), some people choose for similarity in design (sort of) by getting the four Viking reissues and the last three Grant trade editions - these books all have the 'keyhole' symbol on top of the spine, which looks nice on the bookshelf.

I have the four Viking books lined up with the trade editions of DT V-VII by Grant and I have the Grant DT I-IV trade editions lined up with the Grant artist editions of DT V-VII (does it sill make sense? ;))

Yes, most collectors are not simply interested in hardcover editions but they like to get 'true' first editions. These can be identified by stuff on the copyright page (like the number line mentioned above, or a 'first edition' statement) and they typically also have a price on the dust jacket. There are lists with identifiers for 1st editions. Books without price on the dust jacket are usually issued by a book club and to most people, these books are less desirable because you don't know how many there are, you don't know when they were printed and, well... they're not 1st editions (with a few exceptions).

Of course, this is all irrelevant if all you want is a bunch of nice hardcovers, never mind if they're 1sts. It's certainly the cheaper option!

Although the price seems in the ball park, the only way to verify that they are first printings is to check that they all have the full number line (with a "1".) If they don't have a price printed on the dust jacket, they are book club editions that are virtually worthless as collectibles.

If you think you will want to start collecting 1st editions eventually your best bet is to educate yourself before buying: check the King collectibles catalog on this site, always ask the seller for the identifiers, and when in doubt, consult us about condition, prices etcetera :)

I assume the price you're referring to is actually part of the DJ and not just a sticker or something like that? Also, since the total price of these 7 books is US$110 it isn't likely that these are first editions, right? Seems to cheap (wouldn't mind though :-))

There's a crap-ton of the Viking DTs issued from the book club floating around, so just be careful about that. The true trade editions would have the full number line (as mentioned above) and the price printed on the inside left jacket flap (for these particular books anyhow). If they are true first editions all, I'd say it's a decent deal actually. I've seen firsts of the Revised (Viking) Gunslinger sell for upwards of $70 in fine condition.

As with any item you might happen across a great deal from time to time. You know, find one in a garage sale or some naive eBayer putting one up with a "Buy It Now" of $5 or something. But most serious collectors and dealers know how scarce they are and price them accordingly. It makes a nice set with the Thorndike Press edition of RITA HAYWORTH AND SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION if you can get them.

I didn't see the copy with the BIN of 47 pounds or I would have bought it in an instant.

No. I didn't read Shoup's listing. I definitely wouldn't pay $200 for an ex-lib copy. Actually I wouldn't pay $5 for one. I just assumed that the book was in collectible condition. It sounds like I am way off base on my price estimates for these two books. Still, the fact that we are even having this discussion points to the rarity of the two books, especially ones that have never been in a public library.

Regarding the Thorndike Press Large Print edition of RITA HAYWORTH AND SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION: Here is some information from a catalog published by Quill & Brush - "The publisher would not disclose quantity printed, but our impression is that there were probably only about 1,000 copies many of which did not sell, and those that did were sold to libraries, which would account for its scarcity." Not much substance there, just a lot of speculation.....but still. Several years ago I called Thorndike Press on the slim chance that they still had copies waiting to be sold.....but, no luck. I don't have any info on the Chivers Press Large Print edition of THE BREATHING METHOD. I still think that these are rarer than most people think and should command high prices especially if they are not ex-lib.

Mine are not ex-library. I can't think of any book that is ex-library that has much value. I once had an ex-lib copy of YOUNG MONSTERS, edited by Isaac Asimov, that has King's story "One For The Road" but I sold it as soon as I found a clean copy. It seems to be pretty universal among collectors and dealers to consider ex-library copies uncollectible. Otherwise it would encourage people to steal them from libraries.

He visits old european library´s, with special high value books, then in the library he reads the books, an in an unnoticed moment he exchanged the high value book with an .... same looking book. (something like the Gutenberg Bible:onfire:)
Most of the famous libarys don´t wanna talk about this... because they have BAD / No safety, but an
other ´insider´ says, when this crimial guy was caught, he talks about.... He has ´ exchanged´ hundreds of HIGH Value books in an value more than an MILLION EURO.....

Interesting. And it seems I have heard or seen something on television about these thieves. I guess I should have emphasized that it was the field of modern literature or modern first editions where most dealers and collectors shun ex-library copies.

Make the exchange of the books... He talked about several books... first ed. Hemingway books, A.E Poe first, some books like the Gutenberg bible, some old old greek books..... crazy stuff.....

And the thiev says... 90% of the librarys have almost NO securety ... The best securety was an ´closed cabinet´.

Having read both, I can recommend The Man Who Loved Books Too Much. However, personally I liked The Book Thief: The True Crimes of Daniel Spiegelman even better. Gilkey was mostly a white collar criminal, stealing checks and credit cards to defraud sellers of their books. Spiegelman however, actually broke into libraries and physically removed the books form the property. He went so far as to use ducts and air shafts to get into Columbia's University Library rare book room where he "visited" again and again before anyone got wise to him. Much more entertaining a story as he also traveled to Europe to sell his books to really high end collectors. Gilkey kinda comes off as a dolt since he tries to sell stuff from one store to another. In the relatively small community that is high-end collecting in the states, this didn't work so well.

Anyway, they are both interesting reads though. Worth checking out.

Yeah, they are pretty narrow ducts. Then there are those pesky motion detectors to deal with even after you squeeze through the ducts. Double (redundant) security system on all doors, windows, etc. I suppose it could be done but I know I couldn't do it and I know how it is wired and where all the redundancy is.

Rusty, do you also check out ebay.co.uk? Some people only use ebay.com with the 'worldwide' setting but you don't get every international listing using that approach. Most of the books on your list can be found quite easily. For FAITHFUL I'd check out ABE.

I assume you're looking for 1st printings. If not: I have a spare 2nd printing BACHMAN BOOKS in great condition.

Ha. I doubt it. I've got an ARC with publisher's promo material laid in and I have seen some other HC editions on ABE and eBay over the years. But I doubt the print run was very many copies. I'm sure it sold about as well as a book on cricket would sell over here.

It's nothing special and I probably wasn't clear enough in my earlier post. It is just a regular HC first edition of the book with publisher's promo letter laid in. It's not a separate edition of the book.

I still haven't read FAITHFUL. I guess it is the only King book I haven't read. I'm sure I will get to it someday but, currently, it is not in my "to read" pile.

I haven't read 'Faithful' either, which is funny considering it focuses on the greatest sports moment of my life....but, meh, it's a series of journal entires more than a narrative...I have flipped through it and it didn't hook me.

Bio, you can always use my APO here if you'd like and then I can forward up to you via Deutsche Post. Don't know how much you'd save, but it should be some I would think. Slow though; if sent insured figure 30 days, unless you're David who somehow always manages to get things to me in a week. Considering Faithful!

I only have a copy on my bookshelf as I am a completist - at least on collecting First Editions! I have never read it, BUT I did listen to the audio tape once. Then I sold it on ebay! I have kept all my other audio books! Why you might ask! Well gee I am not exactly a member of Red Sox Nation - I am a proud member of the Evil Empire! :-)

I actually was OK with King's contributions. I went into it knowing he was a Yankee hater and he did not disappoint me. His text was more love for Boston that hate for Yankees. It was respectful at time! O'Nan on the other hand - his words bordered on disgusting. Early on in the book he made a statement to the effect of “…and fuck those Yankee fans as well.” Well I take offense to statements such as that. I am a direct recipient of that statement. You’d expect words like those to come from the mouth of an immature teenager! Near the end of the book he was proud to state how he stood in the middle of a Boston street at 2:00am in the morning and had the wonderful opportunity to “flip the bird” to the Yankee team bus! Gee, now there’s a fine gesture for any grown man – I am sure he was proud of his moment of glory! Gee Mr. O'Nan when did you graduate the 7th grade!

Make no bones about it - I do not like the Red Sox. Big Deal! I don't go around trashing them or their fans, using expletives as if its the only way I know how to speak! When I run into someone wearing a Red Sox baseball Cap or Jersey I don't go out of my way to tell them they are disgusting! Everyone has the right to root for whatever team they want to - right. Gee some of my friends are Red Sox fans! Their still my friends. I simply choose to root for the Yankees. I have been since about 1958! Why would I ever stop!

Oh well, I am just glad that Baseball season has officially started TODAY with pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training! Let the bashing being! :-) It's a new year with new players and new contracts and old players and has beens and want to be's and you never know who will rise to the top. Who ever would have predicted at Spring training last year who the World Series victor would be! Well maybe some SF Fans! :-)

I am neither a Yankee fan nor a Red Sox fan. I enjoyed King's sections of Faithful much more than O'Nan's. It wasn't the content of the writing, it was the quality of the writing. I actually found myself skimming O'Nan's sections. King was SO much better than O'Nan. I've never read anything else by him and have no desire to.

O'Nan's The Night Country is an incredible book, and I really liked The Speed Queen, too. The thing I liked about his part of Faithful is that he is an over-the-top fan. King is a fan, O'Nan is a FAN. The kind who would bring a neat on a long pole to snag fly balls while sitting on the Green Monster until the stadium officials made him stop.

While I agree whole-heartedly regarding the vulgarisms, I have to say your Yankee Fandom is currently under review!!! LOL I refuse to have that book in my collection!!!! I have sat with the "Bleacher Creatures" wearing my red "Boston Sucks" T-shirt and have been known to join in on chants of "Asshole" aimed at some nut-job who shows up at Yankee stadium's bleacher section in a "Martinez" jersey.

Funny story during that game. Kevin Millar was new to the Sox at the time and having heard "Roll Call" for the Yanks in the top half of the inning, the Bleacher Creatures started chanting "Ke-vin Mill-ar" cause he was in right field. Well the poor bastard turned to the crowd and tipped his cap and 1,000+ Bleacher Creatures shouted "ASSHOLE" at him. LOL LOL LOL New York, gotta love it and New Yorkers, too. No other place like it!!!

Ever since Pedro threw the 80 year old Don Zimmer to the ground something changed in the rivalry for me. What a no-class move!!!! Anycase, I have more than a couple of friends who are Sox fans. We just try to talk about other things!!! LOL

Now somebody inquire regarding another book and get us back on topic!!!!!!!

Anyone have an extra trade edition dust jacket for DT7? i didn't see any listed on Grants website and so i emailed them but i haven't heard back. If youhave one let me know if your willing to sell it. Picked a real nice signed copy of the book, but it has a not so nice jacket on it, that made the price much better !!
