I'm donating one of mine to the giveaway.

I've seen them before, perhaps even advertised by members on this site. I've asked others. I can find some of them online but not all in the same format. Anyone with any info they can share with me would be the coolest.

I really, really, really, really want The Dark Tower books in Spanish. I just thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone has them and wants to sell them or knows where I can get my own. At this point, I don't care if they are hardbacks, paperbacks or scribbled in crayon. :)

I'll occasionally repost this in the hopes of some help.

Thanks for the time! :)

Thats one of the harder ones to find thats in decent condition. Keep your eyes on ebay, I got mine there at a "good" price. Remember its an older book and pristine copys will go at a higher price. DJ are a large part of any book. If you can live with a not so good DJ but a very good book then get that. You may be lucky and find a better DJ somewhere. Dont forget that you can also "Marry" a second issue DJ with a 1st Edition book. Not as valuable as both being 1/1 but hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Hope this helps

Thanks, Chooch. The thing about eBay is that I've never used it before and I kind of don't want to be ripped off. I try and stick to used book websites like ABE.

I believe you could probably start using ebay if you wanted Ricky, just find the auction and then come here to see if the seller is reputable.

All kinds of experience with that sort of thing around.

That's what I love about this site. Everyone knows something about something and is willing to help you out.

When I first came to this site, I was so confused! So many forums, users, member titles, casino game things, just pure craziness! Now I am getting to unserstand everything and it's becoming one of my favorite websites.

I wouldn't say " Nothing worthy" I have holes in my collection I'd like to fill...but I must say I have a straight King collection. I dont have (or want) any books that King contibited to, or he did the intro (even if he signed it) so I'm only interested in "SK' books . Ive seen some of the collections that people here have and have noticed some doubles. I have two Dolan's and just really want to keep one...so the offer is really aimed at people that want a Dolan, have a double and want to trade. Thanks for the post ....

Does anyone know of or have SoD1 S/L #706? Thats the # I will receive when they release SoD2 and Id like to have a matched set. Ive talked with CD and they are not willing to give me a number to match one that I could find on the secondary market so how can I go about finding it (other than asking around) Thanks

I'm really surprised that CD wouldn't match your number! The only reason why that I can come up with is that the original owner still has a "lock" on it. You might contact the seller of your SoD1 and maybe work something out with them.

I seen one on ebay and I think the number was 486 so I emailed Mindy and she flat out said that " That number is already reserved" My thinking is if the #1 is for sale on ebay and you do not put out a list of what number people will receive then what is the big deal? Allow me to buy the one on ebay and then match that number with the one I have on order with them....I dont think I will buy fron CD again...hell they have had my money for 8 months now. At the very least work with me....:shoot:

Chooch,

If I'm understanding your message correctly, you have SOD2 #706 coming from CD. Your looking for whoever has SOD1 in 706....Yes?

If you want a matched set, and I am understanding you correctly, I know who owns #240 SOD 1 and guaranteed and paid for SOD 2 #240 for a matching set.

I got her the set when I bought mine but she is having $ issues right now and probably would sell both for publish price plus all the shipping and insurance.

Simply tell Mindy your canceling your order and return your money and buy matching set #240. 240 is still registered to me because I bought it.

Again, maybe I'm misunderstanding your message.

I'm looking for the hardcover Cycle of the Werewolf (Land of Enchantment), which is the only hardcover book missing from my collection. I see Betts has a copy for $300, but I cannot spend that much on a book, unfortunately. Are there good copies for under a hundred or would that just be ludicrous?

Thats pretty low - but if you search eBay regularly and are willing to be patient, you might, MIGHT get lucky. Its all in the dustjacket with this book, so you are probably looking at closer to $175 - $200 for a collection worthy copy.

Or you can get one right from the people who did the binding:

Perma-Bound (http://www.perma-bound.com/PermaBound)

Price from them is $17.98 + shipping.

Just type in cycle of the werewolf in the search box at the top right corner of the page.

In 1984, GQ Magazine started publishing a series of articles called "My First Car" where celebrities, athletes, writers, etc. describe (what else?) their first cars. Many were compiled into a book published in 1993.

King's entry in the book uses the same photo as the one in this thread. The text says it is a 1964 Galaxy and he bought it from his brother for $250 when he was about 17 years old.

I'm not a car guy but that can't be a 1964 model in the picture. That must be a typographical error. He probably GOT the car in 1964 as King would have been about 17 y/o at that time. Are there any old car buffs out there that can identify make and model?

OK, I think I have answered my own question. The car in the picture is King's SECOND car, according to the original article in the July, 1984 issue of GQ. It is a 1956 Plymouth.

I have no idea how old he is in the picture. He looks older than 17 to me though.

If anyone has or comes across a 3 pack of the Duma Key Tennis balls i would really like a set. I have been outbid on 3 diffeent auctions on ebay !
I don't usually collect promotional items but i really liked the book and wanted to get these.
I thought i had someone who was going to offer me a set if they got any more but it seems they may have let someone else get them.
thanks

Does anyone know where these tennis balls came from? Were they given away as a promotion somewhere, did someone have them made up themselves to make money? I never have heard where exactly they originated from and am curious to know.

Scribner issued promo kits to reviewers that had a single tennis ball (with the book and author written on it) in little plastic boxes with simulated waves made of construction paper inside. Maybe these three-ball versions are the excess from that campaign?

jhanic

I've heard that the single ones (see the thumbnail) were distributed as part of the promotion for Duma Key by the publisher. I don't know about the 3-packs.

At the risk of being wrong, I would postulate that the tennis balls came to the publisher in a "three pack tube". Standard packaging (although not always in clear plastic) for tennis balls. Someone probably had to mate each individual ball with the true "promo" piece. Somehwere, somehow, there are leftover tubes with balls in them. In fact, there may be leftover accompanying promo stuff.

I had two sets until a couple of weeks ago when I received offers for one, so I auction one (I'm keeping the other one). Sorry Rusty for missing it :( Mike Pasiuk also contacted me about it but I'm not selling mine.

The ones I received came directly from the publisher, so my guess is Bev is right: publisher's excess.

Looking for a US 1st of "The Dead Zone" and "Firestarter" in fine/fine condition.

Firestarter is a VERY difficult book to find in F/F condition. I have 5 copies and not a one would I consider to be F/F-Perhaps VG/VG, but the definition of F/F really means a mint copy.. The white DJ combined with the predilection of page edges yellowing and poor Doubleday production values will make aquiring a F/F copy difficult and expensive. G/G copies can be found much easier.

I'm also looking for a 1st fine/fine Firestarter. :)

In France this is one of the scarce early stories to have been published in a magazine... And i really like the title of this one, cause IMO the meaning is really well done into this clever title : "attaque à nains armés" (literally, +/- : armed widgets attack). How good is that title? :-)
this is also a play on word with an expression : attaque à main armée

I'd be noisy to read that ending...

There actually have been two stories published with the reader's endings for The Cat From Hell. The one in the September 1977 Cavalier is by a guy named Phil Bowie, who, I guess, was the first place winner. A second story by Mark Rains was published in the December 1977 Gent. I also own that one. I haven't yet read Bowie's version, but Rain's version is VERY different than King's, which was published in full in the June 1977 Cavalier. King's first 500 words were published in the March 1977 issue of Cavalier.

When I get the September 1977 copy I'll post both storylines if no-one objects.

I'm not sure, but I'd assume that King had submitted the entire story and the magazine editor used only the first 500 words for the initial publication in the March 1977 issue. His entire version was published in the June 1977 issue.

that's a great resale price for someone.
i would buy it... except i'm boycotting the book because of S&S

700.00 is 400.00+ over what my original order from Simon and Schuster was... and 200.00 over what my second revised order was.

only way i'd ever buy this is if i got it for the original 285.00 that it was supposed to cost in the beginning publisher's offer.

but since the final publisher price was 1000.00, someone without a grudge should consider it a steal.... surprised it's still available.... but makes me glad i didn't pay the rediculous 1000.00 S&S bumped the price to.

it was 285.00 or maybe 295.00...something like that... i forget... but that was the price amazon offered it at (and i place an order via) - so i assume that price wasn't pulled out of some amazon's butt, but originated from S&S . then S&S decided to only offer them through their website...at 500.00, where i placed an order at and recieved a verification for...
when the price was raised to 750.00 i told them to shove it up their ass.
then the price went to 1000.00 ....and now ....they can shove all their books where only darkness resides. hence my lifetime boycott of these scammers.

I have all the other issues but #3 to complete my collection, so any help would be nice. Thanks!

o an early magazine, with an excerpt of Carrie (1976)
o a french 'review copy' of Bag of Bones (i only know one copy of it). with a letter and fac simile of sig on the front

Currently on the look out for some of the more common UK 1st editions - say 1990 onwards. If someone in the US can help with this it'd be appreciated, as the freight from across the pond gets expensive.

Also, a US 1st of Firestarter.

My goal is to get any book signed by King.

I hope it doesn't take you as long to get what you want as it did me. I got my first King signed book in 1997, but I finally was able to get my holy grail in November when I went to the signing. If you do the math, it only took me 22 years to get a King book that was signed just for me.

$160 is the best price out of about 5 or 6 on abebooks.com. Not sure what a "reasonable" price is though, since I received my copy as a gift a few years ago, and am not sure what a good value would be in today's market.

Not even hardly. I've been wanting my own signed King book since I read my first King story. I even asked for one for Christmas one year. That's when I learned how much they really cost. That was in 1986. So 22 years sounds about right. Having a signed limited is nice, but it was never my grail.

That's called a knock off dude, and even if it looks as good as the real deal few collectors want a knock off in their collection.

I understand that and am not saying that people should go make their own. All I am saying is that it's not a terribly unique item and can't see actual collectable value in it.

Randall Flagg
01-18-2009, 02:15 PM
I take no offense at the suggestion, but I would rather not have the tags than "create/clone" them myself. Irrational perhaps, but collecting is not always unanimously seen as perfectly rational.

Patrick
01-19-2009, 11:16 AM
To build on that thought, some things that we (I, anyway) collect aren't about resale value (as the term "collectibility" seems to imply above), but are simply things we like and want to own for any one of a variety of reasons.

Earth's Militant Mind
01-20-2009, 02:19 AM

Peter, I was asking if there's 3 since you said "but it's listed in Justin Brooks' second (or third) addedum."
But I thinks its safe to say there's 2.

I am looking for any promo items from The Dark Half...and also the US ARC/Proof*, or any other interesting editions/items relating to The Dark Half. (I currently have a 1st/1st, a UK proof and a Russian ed. of the book--my urge to collect Dark Half items knows no bounds, if you've got something, even if you think it's not worth my time--PM me with it :D).

*I'm not particularly sure I "need" the US Edition--as I'm not sure if they are all too different.

Of COURSE you "need" it, Ves! Be a Dark Half Completist!

Ves, here's the front of a promotional booklet for the UK Dark Half sent out by Hodder & Stoughton. (It's so large that it doesn't fit in my scanner, so the top portion is truncated.)

The "National Press Advertisement" that was included:

Also included was a proof dust jacket. An audio tape was included with some of the packages, but I don't have that. It had some excerpts narrated by Anthony Valentine.

I would like to add the following to my collection (I think these are 'must haves' for the serious SK collector):

The Stand - Limited/Signed
Firestarter - Limited/ Signed
Skeleton Crew - Limited/Signed
Cujo - Limited/Signed
Eyes of the Dragon - Limited/Signed
Regulators - Limited/Signed

Of course I have a huge list which includes many more, but these are at the top. I can't afford to buy them all at once, but I do plan on adding one or two this year. My plan is to shop around and find someone willing to work with me on a layaway plan. LOL..so if anyone is willing to work with me, just let me know.

Thanks!

Theres one for $15, or I'm pretty sure you can still get them from Grant for $5. Probably worth an email their way before you grab the $15 one.

EDIT: it looks like Grant only has extra jacket for the S/L, not the trade. I say go for the $15 one, it'll make your $50 book w/o jacket a nice $100- $150 book!

$21 shipping on a $15 dust jacket?

I see $6.95 shipping?

I think thats just a preset amount for non-American adresses. I'm fairly confident the shipping wouldn't have actually been $21!
