I had to get my "Gunslingers" out of storage since I like to keep my extra things protected and just have one of each in my bookcases.

I got them out last night and can take pictures tonight when I get home no problem. :)

I have an extra Knowing Darkness. (slipcased version) The slipcase is torn a bit on the top (I think you can probably fix it from inside so you can't really see it though...but no promises! :)

I will have to see how much they are going for unless someone else knows? I can take pictures once I get those Gunslinger pics moved from phone over to my computer so I can upload them since I promised I would get those up tonight.

Don't forget there are two different versions of King's baseball card that was issued with this S/L. The rarer version is him in front of a field, as opposed to the more common stadium in the background. No idea if this difference results in a difference in price between the two however...

In my area the stores charged $10 or $12 plus tax. The closest store to me was 35 miles away.

here is the original story from Brian (Freeman)

"Many collectors already know that Stephen King autographed his first-ever baseball cards as his way of signing these special editions, which I thought was very cool, but what no one outside a small group knew until now is that there were actually two different baseball cards created for King. Here’s how this unique and unusual collectible item came to be:

After running the baseball card idea by King, who loved it, we hired a local shop to custom-make a uniform and baseball cap for the fictional New Jersey Titans. These items were shipped down to King in Florida and we waited to see what happened. A few weeks later, the results of a photo shoot arrived.
We narrowed the photos down to one image and Kate Freeman Design went to work, creating two versions of the card. The first version used the original photo of King exactly as it was taken. The second version used the same photo of King, only he was photoshopped into a stock photo of Wrigley field. (We didn’t want to use a photo of Fenway because that seemed a little clichéd given King’s well-known affinity for the team, but we did want something that evoked an earlier era of baseball.)

IT is hard to find, but dead zone is even harder! Every copy of IT and dead zone I bought on ebay was worse than the one I was trying to replace, descriptions never matched quality. same goes for gunslinger 3.

I just bought one from ebay and it is on it's way. Allegedly in as new condition. I will eventually sell my copy. Mine is at least F/F. I do want to re-wrap the jacket because there might be a small flaw on the jacket but I won't know until I wrap it again. When I get the new one I can PM you if you are still looking.
Also, I'm looking too for a Dead Zone. I bought one that was damn close to VF, but had some minor fading on the binding and some whiting on the corners of jacket. I sold it though. To me, if I'm going to collect it and store it in a bookcase, it should be VF/VF. Anal.....I know.

Ebay is such a roll of the dice. I made a mistake, once, listing a book without looking it over like I normally wood. Live and learn. I sometimes get so upset with sellers on Ebay that I'd send a 5.00 book back just on principle. The worst is when you ask a question, they answer to your satisfaction, and the book is a damn BCE. Send it back and rewash lol.

Is this the Viking Repress or the boxed set Grant version. I have found the Viking represses to often times be in horrible condition. I am not sure if that's because they weren't made well or what but I have seen a bunch that are in awful shape.

So interesting. I just assumed it was my luck at the moment. I thought it would be easy to find a good example. Strange that so many of this title are in crappy condition. Perhaps it would be a good idea to grab good copies whenever I come across one as one's in good shape could be even harder to come by in the future. I shot David at Betts an email to see if he has one.

Actually, in my opinion, it's not strange at all. Contrary to what a book collector may believe, not everyone buys a copy just to put on a shelf to collect. It didn't take the world long to figure out IT was a masterpiece. Therefore, the copies we see beat up, are in fact just well read and loved. The same goes for The Dead Zone.

Agreed as well my friend. Well said. IT should be priced much higher I think. Especially cause of the love for the book (thus read and not "collected") AND its so big.. so the spines on most are in rough shape...

I do understand it was popular and read most are well read but still with as many printed I would have thought many would survive in better shape. It certainly doesn't seem like that is the case though. I have actually found that most Viking books seem to end up well worn. When looking for an Eyes of the Dragon I noticed tons of them in poor shape as well and the DT represses as well. David did happen to find me one in excellent shape though so I at least have that covered for now.

My Dark Tower collection is nearing completion, with only the 1st of the Gunslinger being MIA. I'm hoping to find a sealed 2nd edition to save some money - because I could sleep well at night knowing that it COULD be a first under the shrink wrap that will never be opened!

There IS a difference between the dust jackets for the first and second editions that is visible from the outside--I think it's the first has more of a yellow tint to the lettering than the second, which is more orange. I'm not a 100% sure of this (it may be reversed, i.e., the first is more orange) but I'm pretty sure. I only have a first. I don't have any real desire to get a second.

John

Even easier to look at the boards from the top or bottom through the shrinkwrap... first boards are maroon. the boards for the second are black

A matching set #78 (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=1188774474&searchurl=sortby%3D1%26tn%3Ddark+tower%26an%3Dstep hen+king) is currently for sale on Abebooks. The set is $25,000 and they also ship international.

A matching set #433 (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=2584576427&searchurl=sortby%3D1%26tn%3Dthe+dark+tower%26an%3D stephen+king) is currently for sale on Abebooks. The set is $21,500 and they also ship international.

Gerald

All of these are in left field... I would not pay more than $13500US for a matching Fine set. If it is a low number or one you prefer... maybe another $500....

There is a set on ebay. It's priced pretty high, but there is a best offer option. It was mentioned and posted last night in the forum for the intriguing dark tower Stephen King auctions or sales.

yes seen that , but thanks!
Still I am not going to make an offer on that, waste of time , the seller obviously overrates his treasure a "little" ;D

Make him an offer with exactly what neo said? That's a good argument to negociate the price down, but probably to just a little less than the cheaper price

That's right. Some people definitely had reservations, but some people thought it looked legit. The fact that the seller owned a bookstore near SK added some credibility, but not enough to win everyone over. The summary to me was that it was a "probably good, but proceed with caution if you have reservations" kind of situation.

FYI Both the HARD & SOFT covers of The Bachman Books were released simultaneously. So they are both the true 1st Edition.

I too would like a replacement 1st Edition The Bachman Books, but they are rare and pricey. Tons of later printings and BCEs on ebay, but only a couple of the real deal and seeing as I am currently unemployed they are totally out of my price range! My copy has an embossed "from the library of" on the first page. That was years before I realized how much that devalued the book! I have all of the other firsts editions, but would like to replace this one.

After this the only firsts that I don't have but would like are the individual Bachman paperbacks. I have The Running Man but need the other three! These are also pricey at least to me now and the only way I'll get them is to stumble upon them in a yard sale most likely.

I don't know if I've made the ask yet, but was wondering if anyone has a decent 1st edition dustjacket for the the 1978 The Stand. Mine has more tears/rips/etc than I ultimately want to have for an otherwise great book and SK Collector case. I'm not necessarily looking for perfect, but certainly some of you have upgraded and kept your old DJ.

Camelot Books are asking $1,000 for it....

Depending on overall condition of the book and slipcase, I would say around $550 - $650 is a reasonable price to pay.

Is that the one with the black slipcase or the red slipcase from CD? The black one is bundled with the artist edition on Grant's site. Unless you are talking about the cloth gray one.
